Liberals are Horrible People

No, not all liberals, but certainly a considerable number, especially on the far fringes of the political left.  Why?  Because in a recent discussion about colleges uninviting conservative speakers, these people, as is no real surprise, turned right to victim blaming.

Of course they did.

No, colleges shouldn’t allow conservative speakers because apparently, it’s somehow their fault that the fucktards on the political left cannot control themselves when someone with a different political opinion appears, therefore it is now the fault of the conservative speakers that property gets destroyed by the illiberal left.

It’s like saying that a woman deserved to get raped because she dared to wear a short skirt.  These people are unbelievable.  They need a 2×4 to the back of the head, and I abhor violence but for these assholes, I’ll make an exception.

And yes, they are completely serious, they know what they’re saying and they’ve continually doubled down on their idiocy.  They believe that it’s the fault of the conservative speakers that liberals destroy property.  They believe that words are somehow responsible for actions.  They believe that conservative speakers, if they are allowed at all, should be required to pay for all of the damages and cover the costs of security keeping the liberal mobs at bay.

These people need a swift kick in the backside, that’s clearly where whatever passes for a brain resides. And you wonder why I hate self-identified liberals?  And why I keep questioning why those who insist on using that label want to be at all associated with these reprehensible pieces of human filth on the political left.  This is what liberalism is today.  It’s not about free speech, in fact, it’s exactly the opposite.  It’s not about freedom and liberty, it’s exactly the opposite.  This is not your grandparents’ liberalism. What you are is conservative.  The more people realize that, the better.

Why Are Theists So Stupid?

I got into a short squabble with an irrational theist today whose answer to any given question is “the Bible provides all the answers”.  It doesn’t matter what you’re talking about, the Bible is the one and only source of all wisdom, ever.  It doesn’t make a difference if you point out that she’s just wrong, she keeps insisting that the Bible is all you need, period, full stop, end of story.

So I got kind of tired of this and I decided to call her on it.  I asked her to provide any evidence of any kind that the Bible has any valid answers to any questions whatsoever.  Give me something beyond “I say so”.  But of course, she’s completely incapable of that, she says “it feels right to me”, therefore, that’s all she needs.  It feels right to her, therefore it has to be right for everyone.

Now I knew I was wasting my time on a complete idiot, but I was bored so I continued.  “People claim that the Vedas or the Qur’an or Dianetics “feel” right too.  Does that make those books right for everyone?”  Nope!  It doesn’t feel right to her, therefore it can’t be right for anyone.  She’s right, everyone else is wrong, so there!

Unfortunately, this is the majority of the theists I talk to.  “I want to feel good, therefore whatever makes me feel good is right, I don’t care if it’s actually true or not!”  And when you point this out to them, they still refuse to get it!  What is wrong with these people?

That’s a question I find myself asking more and more these days, what the hell is wrong with the religious, that they cannot see the reality that smacks them directly in the face?  Their theological blinders are completely immovable despite all efforts to do so.  I got to the point where I just walked away from the idiot theist because beating my head against her wall of absolute ignorance would do no good.  What was the point?  She cares only about feelings, even though she denies it, there is no place in her little fantasy world for reality, all I can do is let her stew in her echo chamber of ignorance.  It’s sad, but what can you do?

Memes are Stupid

I know I’ve said this before, but memes are stupid.  And yes, I know that the stupid pictures with text like the one to the left aren’t theoretically memes in the Dawkins sense, but that’s how they’re treated and labeled most often.  So that’s what I’m going with.

Memes are what happens when you’re too damn stupid to be able to talk about the subject intelligently.  They’re what happen when you’re too lazy to express your own ideas.  They’re what happen when you’re too pathetic to form your own beliefs, instead relying on what other people have made to toss around social media.

In other words, memes are for idiots and there are far too many idiots out there.  I am ever so sick of idiots.

And this is one reason why I hate social media so much, because all people do there is throw around supposedly pithy pictures with text pasted over the top of them, as though they’re doing something worthwhile.  That’s why Twitter is so pointless, nobody is talking, everyone is just throwing memes at each other.  Are you people stupid?  It’s no wonder why the young are so laughably idiotic.

The idea of having an intellectual discussion on any of these forums is absurd.  I know, I’ve tried.  But most people are simply incapable of just typing, they constantly send images back and forth because forming independent, individual thoughts is hard.  Defending your positions is a challenge.  The world revolves around memes.  It’s lazy thinking, if you can even describe it as thinking.

And it shocks me how few people seem to recognize this.

I’m honestly expecting people to start showing up at real life political events, not carrying signs, but carrying images.  It’s how people communicate anymore.  It’s pathetic.  This is content for the short attention span theater.  It’s ideas for the short bus crowd.  Can someone please explain it to me?  Because I really don’t get how dumb the modern social media crowd is.

The Stupidity of Reporting Comments

This doesn’t happen as often as it used to, but there are still people who will report my own comments on my own blog to IntenseDebate, as if they are totally unaware that the report comes right back to me.  I am the only one who can delete a comment.  IntenseDebate cannot.  So you’re asking me to censor myself, which is really a pretty stupid thing to do.

But then again, these are stupid people.

Now I have had, over the years, people who just showed up on my blog to complain.  No matter what I had to say, they found something to whine about and they hated everything I had to say, no matter what it was about.  I could say I liked mint chocolate chip ice cream and they’d complain about it, just because I said it.  There have been rare occasions where I’ve banned them from commenting, after I’ve issued warning after warning after warning and it’s been ignored.  Most of the time, I just ignore them and hope they go away because they’re just annoying, not offensive and talking to them at all somehow validates their actions, at least as far as they’re concerned.  They want attention and giving it to them just encourages them to continue.

There are people who hate the fact that I have a blog and they can’t shut me up so they try everything in their power to get me shut down.  I had one person complain to my web host, which just sent me the complaint and I circular filed it.  I’ve had people try to report me to IntenseDebate and more than a couple who just send e-mail directly to me complaining about my comments and demanding that I remove it, as though they don’t realize that they’re sending the e-mail to the person who wrote the comments.  Sure, that’s bright.

But they’re not bright, are they?  They have no clue that I’m paying to post whatever I want to post. They don’t have to like it, they don’t have to read it, but they can’t stop it.  I think that pisses them off so they do everything in their power, which isn’t a lot, to get it removed.  It hasn’t worked in the last 12 years, I don’t think it’s going to work any time soon.  I don’t think they understand how this technology thing actually works.  That says a lot about these people, doesn’t it?

Social Media is Strange

I know I recently wrote a post on how much I hate social media, but right after that, someone over on my YouTube channel asked me if I was a member of the “conservative atheist” group on Facebook.  Well, I had no idea such a thing existed.  I was the second member of the “conservative atheist” group on Google+ and even though it’s grown in membership some, I doubt anyone has ever posted more than one or two comments to it that I am aware of.  But she said there were hundreds of conservative atheists over on Facebook so I figured I should take a look.

And frankly, I’ve forgotten how to use Facebook, or more likely, Facebook has changed so much while I’ve been away that it’s no longer the software I used to know.  But while I was there, I realized that none of my posts have been going to Facebook in the past 8 or so months.  I had no idea.  Apparently there was some change to WordPress or Facebook a while ago and instead of needing a plugin to auto-post, you just needed to set something up internally.  I’ve now done that so we’ll see if my material goes back to being auto-published again.

Thereafter thought, I went to Tumblr and Twitter to see if they were still receiving posts.  I figured Twitter was because, for some weird reason, I keep getting more and more people following me there, even though I haven’t actually logged on in several years.  In fact, people were still mentioning me over there, which shocks me to no end.  Why would you keep referencing someone, and not just responding to auto-posts, but actually sending messages to me, when I haven’t responded in years?  I don’t get it.

Further, while I was poking around these platforms, I was actually surprised how long I’ve had accounts. Twitter, for instance, is an account from 2012, although I did delete my account once and probably got my original closer to 2009.  Facebook was the biggest surprise as my main account there is from December 2004.  That’s 11 months after the stupid thing started.  That’s pretty much when the blog went online so I guess I was there from the start.  I still don’t use it much though.  And Tumblr? Who knows, I couldn’t find a start date after poking around for a couple of minutes, but probably around 2010 or so if I had to guess.

I did reinstall my Twitter client and posted a couple of things today, although honestly, I don’t know how long I’ll stick around.  As always, the majority of it is shit.  It’s a bunch of whining about Trump and theist spam.  I think the biggest thing I object to is that it’s mostly mindless memes, especially if you’re watching a hashtag, which I usually do.  I checked out #atheism and 99% of what goes by is just memes. There are no conversations going on, it’s just people sending pithy pictures out into the ether.  And nobody is paying the slightest bit of attention, it’s seemingly all automated.  I tried responding to a couple of them and never got any response whatsoever.  So what’s the point of Twitter again?  To watch endless spam?  I think not.

So maybe, one of these days, I’ll get around to that conservative atheist group on Facebook, once I figure out how everything works again.  Maybe.  It might be nice to see some sane people for a change. I’m terribly tired of the other kind.

The Selective Liberal Dictionary

Have I said how much I hate liberals lately?  They are hypocrites of the highest order, at least the ones I tend to debate.  Recently, the story of Ben Carson calling African slaves “immigrants” came out and, of course, the liberal whine parade had to run around screaming that the sky was falling.  Slaves can’t be immigrants because it wasn’t voluntary!

So I pulled out the dictionary and presented the definition of the word:  a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.  Nowhere in that definition does it describe the circumstances under which a person comes to live in a foreign country, it just says that they do.  It’s a perfectly accurate term to use, whether the illiberal left likes it or not.

You’d think these people don’t know what dictionaries are.  Of course, we know they do, they trot them out whenever the definition fits what they want to claim, like feminism, but when it doesn’t, they shrug and say “what’s a dictionary?”  Words only mean things when it helps them. They’re a bunch of hypocrites.

But why is this?  Because they have no actual arguments, they are just constant rage machines.  They don’t think, they just react.  They’re looking for something to get upset about, even if what they get upset about makes no rational sense.  This is what happens when emotions are used in place of intelligence.  The left has become the ideology of virtue signaling.  They want to look moral so they get upset at anything and everything that they can justify to themselves just might be bad, even if it isn’t. It’s why we see so much political correctness and censorship on the left, because they have to be higher and mightier than you are, even if they’re really not.

Please people, before you go screaming about some word that made you feel bad, go look up what that word actually means in the dictionary.  It might stop you from looking like an idiot, or at least it might make you look less like an idiot before you open your fool mouth and confirm everyone’s suspicions.

People Die, Get Over It!

I write this just as I heard that Carrie Fisher has died and frankly, I don’t particularly care.  But to hear the collective whinging of the fanboys, you’d think the planet was ending.  And of course, this has been a year of people bitching and moaning that famous people have dropped dead so it’s nothing new.

But guess what?  People do that.  Stop being an idiot.

Honestly, people need to get a grip on reality.  Death is a natural part of the life cycle.  Everyone does it.  Everyone you know, yourself included, is going to die and it isn’t a tragedy, it’s reality.

At least this year is almost over so I don’t have to hear that “2016 took someone else from us!”  Now it will be “Oh no, 2017 is horrible!”  Let me let you in on a little secret.  2016 can’t do anything.  Reality did it.  There’s a reason that lots of famous people you grew up with died in 2016, because they are old and people do that.  I can’t remember where I saw it, but someone did a study, back in 2014 or 2015 I think, where they compared the ages at death of celebrities during the year and found that they averaged out to near the average life expectancy of humans.  In other words, people died about when we would expect them to die.  And this is somehow a revelation?  A lot of the people you grew up watching on TV or in the movies are reaching that age, so yes, they are dying.  Why are you surprised?  Why is this a shock to you?  Why all the crying and gnashing of teeth?  It isn’t like you didn’t know it was coming one of these days.  These people aren’t going to live forever.  Why are you pretending that they should?

It isn’t a tragedy, it’s part of being alive.  Grow up and deal with reality.  You didn’t even know these people, why are you acting like your dog got run over by a car?  I mean, I even met Carrie Fisher many years ago, talked to her for a while, and I don’t feel particularly bad that she had a heart attack and dropped dead.  Why should I?  I have no personal stake in her survival.  It doesn’t matter that she was in some of my favorite movies of all time, it doesn’t hurt the movies any that she’s gone, any more than it hurts them that Sir Alec Guinness is dead.  He doesn’t suddenly fade away from the work he’s done.

Isn’t it a better idea to celebrate what she did in her life than to whine about her death?  That seems pretty anti-climactic to me.  Besides, exactly where do you get off being sad about the death of Carrie Fisher or anyone else?  You didn’t know her.  Certainly it is a sad time for her friends and family, the people who actually shared her life, but you aren’t those people.  Your sadness is self-centered.  You’re only sad because she won’t be in any more Star Wars movies.  You’re a dick.  Get over yourself.

And that goes for everyone out there.  Stop whining that people die.  Grow up.  Deal with reality. Accept the inevitable.  Mourn people that you actually knew, but more than that, celebrate their lives. Laud their accomplishments.  Don’t cry over their deaths.  Everyone  dies.  Even you.  Get a grip.

Freddy Gray Got What He Deserved

The verdict has come back regarding the driver of the van that Freddy Gray died in the back of, clearing him of all charges, and as should have been expected, the liberal shitbags are up in arms because… reasons.  It has to be the fault of the cops that Freddy Gray died.  It just has to be.

It’s just that reality says otherwise.  The court found that the testimony given by another person in the back of the van held up to scrutiny, even though the testimony was eventually retracted because going against the racist #BLM thugs tends to be bad for your health.  The testimony matches all of the forensic evidence that states that Freddy Gray was told to remain laying down on his stomach during the van ride, he chose instead to stand up and act erratically, and that led to his injuries and subsequent death.

Well stupid, do what you’re told!

Apparently, the racist left think black people are too stupid to do as they’re told because it must be the fault of the police that this happened!  It can’t be the fault of Freddy Gray, who has a long criminal history in the first place.  It can’t be the fault of Freddy Gray that he violated his probation.  It can’t be the fault of Freddy Gray that he got arrested and it certainly can’t be the fault of Freddy Gray that he decided to stand up and dance around in the back of a moving police van in violation of orders to do otherwise.

Sure, not his fault at all!  It’s all a white conspiracy!

See, the law is colorblind.  There are no laws only for black people, no laws only for white people, the laws apply to everyone. If you violate the laws, you deserve to pay the penalty.  For some weird and wholly racist reason, the left seems to think that being black makes you special and that you can ignore some laws with impunity because they shouldn’t apply to you.

Liberals are idiots.  I am sick to death of idiots, especially the racist idiots that the illiberal left is turning into.  Freddy Gray got what he deserved.  It’s a shame that he’s dead, but his entire life led to that moment.  Nobody is to blame but him.  Maybe it’s about damn time the asshole left figured that shit out.

Terminal Stupidity Burnout

Does this ever happen to you?  You spend a considerable amount of time debating religious, political and social issues with the usual band of idiots and after a while, you just can’t take it anymore because you know that ultimately, it’s a pointless exercise.  You know that the people you’re talking to are beyond reason and don’t care what you have to say anyhow, so you start to wonder what the hell you’re doing in the first place.

That’s me.  Right now.  And while this happens to everyone from time to time, it seems to be happening more and more often for me recently. It used to be that I could go for a couple of months before getting tired of the abject stupidity, now it only takes a couple of weeks.  In extreme cases, a couple of days.  Then I have to take a big step back because I find that I just don’t care anymore.

A long time ago, I resolved to know when to walk away from pointless conversations, I swore to not engage in debates against those who didn’t have good reasons to hold their positions, but quickly learned that if I really did that, I’d never talk to anyone, especially in the fields of politics, religion and social issues.  These are all filled to the brim with people who only operate on pure emotion.  They don’t think about anything, they only feel.  They are incapable of logically considering their positions and rejecting them if it turns out that they are wrong.  It’s blind faith and nothing more and I cannot stand that.

So you have to pick your battles and honestly, in an increasing number of cases, those battles don’t last long because I quickly realize that the people I’m engaging are a bunch of assholes.  Literally 5 minutes ago, as I write this, I walked away from a complete prick who I’d been debating gay marriage with.  I pointed out that a generation or two ago, interracial marriage was in the same position and the world didn’t end because we legalized that.  So he said that there are virtually no interracial marriages, blacks only marry blacks and, interestingly enough, American Indians, his example, only married American Indians. Both of these are completely wrong.  I showed him the studies that showed that 19% of blacks are married interracially and an astonishing 59% of American Indians are.  He comes back with “well, blacks are just marrying up when they marry white women”.  Great.  Racist asshole.  How do you respond to that?  So I didn’t.  I just walked away.  But I do that at least 5-6x every single day anymore, these are not debates worth having and I have little enough free time as it is, I’m not going to waste it on obnoxious pricks.

And there’s the rub.  It’s very hard to sit down and have an intellectual discussion with a rational individual because there are so few of them out there.  The ones I meet, I already agree with.  The ones I don’t agree with are disgusting, awful human beings, operating on pure emotion, who don’t really care if what they believe is true, so long as it makes them feel good.  Banging my head on the wall gets tiresome and gives me headaches and I’ve got better things to do than that.  What’s an intelligent, rational person to do?

Attacking Those Who Don’t Use Drugs

This one always gives me a chuckle.  Whenever the subject of drug legalization comes up and I say I am not in favor of it, the nutty drug advocates desperately try to find something that I do that they can point at and say “aha!  You’re guilty too!”  They never can, of course, I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I don’t do drugs, and I’ve even started saying I don’t do religion because that’s an addiction as well.  I am about the least addictive person around and that just frustrates the hell out of them.  They really want to find something that they can point to and feel smugly superior about.  Too bad they always fail.

Mostly this is because they can’t actually argue their point.  They can’t defend drug usage rationally.  They can’t show that drug usage is actually a net positive for society.  In fact, they really only have three arguments.

First, “I want to!”  Well who the hell cares?  That’s the most immature argument of them all, it’s throwing a temper tantrum, holding your breath because you don’t get your way.  Rational adults don’t operate like that.

Second, “you can’t stop people from taking drugs to stop trying!”  That’s equally idiotic.  We can’t stop people from killing each other either, does that mean we ought to stop trying?  This is one of those lowest common denominator arguments that I’ve talked about before.  “Stupid people are stupid so don’t try to stop them from being stupid!”  Rational adults don’t act like that either.

Finally, as I’ve already pointed out, is the “gotcha!” argument.  The “see, you’re just as guilty so shut the hell up!” argument. And as I already said, that doesn’t work either but they sure do try.  They go to extreme lengths in fact, I’ve even seen some of them say “do you drink coffee?” or “do you take aspirin?”  Well, no, I don’t drink coffee, can’t stand the stuff, and while you might have been able to make the case for caffeine not too long ago, my doctor has me on a strict water regimen now, so nope, no caffeine for me.  And aspirin?  Seriously, that’s a legal OTC medication that cannot, no matter how hard you try, make you high.  It is a pain killer.  And they’ve even tried that one, saying that the purpose of pain killers is to “make you feel good”, therefore there’s no difference between aspirin and cocaine.  Give me a break!  By that “logic”, eating a good mean is the same thing as injecting heroin into your veins because both can make you feel good.

But these people say stupid things because they are desperate.  They have no credible arguments.  They are immature hedonistic idiots who care only about themselves and not at all about society as a whole.  They want no responsibility to others, they only want to take care of themselves and screw everyone else.  And the more that you point out how stupid their arguments are, the more upset they get.  The harder they try to use one of these ridiculous arguments to regain some semblance of credibility.  It doesn’t work though.  It doesn’t convince anyone.  It just makes them look more and more pathetic.

And that’s what drug users are.  Pathetic.

What is Wrong With People and Their Cell Phones?

So I got to thinking about this when some survey company wanted me to answer some questions about cell phone insurance, and heck, they were going to give me a $10 Amazon gift card, so why the hell not.  This is all about what kind of cell phone insurance you would buy, clearly trying to see how much they could  get people to spend on add-ons and they ended up getting kind of mad at me because I wasn’t interested in any of the add-ons that they wanted to “sell”.  To make it clear, they weren’t trying to actually sell plans to those being surveyed, they wanted to know what people wanted so they could go to cell providers and try to sell them on the plans.

I don’t have insurance on my phone.  I don’t need insurance on my phone.  I’ve had a cell phone since at least the early 90s and I have never, not once in my entire life, ever lost a cell phone, had one stolen or broken one.  I can count on less than the fingers of one hand how many times I’ve dropped my phone and it has never resulted in any damage at all. I take care of my belongings and I don’t have to replace them all the time.  I am clearly not the kind of consumer that they want. I know lots of that kind of people, I just don’t understand them.

See, my wife and I have never had to have a phone replaced, we’ve never broken or lost one, the only time we get new phones is either because we want one for some reason, or because they just stop working, neither of which would be covered by any insurance.  Phones are tools.  They are not fashion accessories.  Therefore, we have no insurance.  If we ever lost one, we’d just go buy a new one, no harm, no foul.  We do have insurance on our kids’ phones because one has lost a phone and the other just had one stolen within the last couple of months.  But beyond replacement, we need nothing else.

But that’s not what this survey company wanted to hear.  They wanted all kinds of tech support and accessory coverage and constant upgrade coverage so they could charge $25-30 a month.  None of that matters at all to me.  But I don’t treat my phone like a toy, it’s a tool.  I don’t carry it around in my hand, I don’t constantly play with it, it sits on my belt all the time and with a bluetooth headset, I rarely even touch it.  But I can’t tell you how many phones I just find laying around.  I can remember finding them all over the place at work, on desks, on counters, on the back of toilets, etc.  In fact, not a week goes by without someone’s phone being left in the bathroom.  What in the hell are you doing in the bathroom with your phone?  Okay, people are stupid, but that’s not something to be proud of!

I know this company wants to cater to the lowest common denominator, the stupid people who are prone to misusing and abusing their property, who treat their phones like status symbols and want a constant supply of new technology in their pocket so they can feel good about themselves.  In other words, they want to sell to the terminally stupid and gullible.  That’s their right, of course.  It just makes me depressed that there is such a market for stupidity.  I know I shouldn’t be surprised, but once again, I’m reminded just how idiotic the majority of Americans actually are and that makes me sad.

Too Stupid to Know They’re Stupid

I keep running across these numbnuts who really are too stupid to know just how stupid they actually are.  You know the kind of people I mean, the ones whose idiocy makes your head explode?

So this time out, this idiot shows up saying that having gays on television is somehow a horrible thing because it disrespects the rights of the religious not to have it “in their face”.  Of course, when I pointed out that there is religious programming on television, not to mention religious references all over the place, somehow that didn’t disrespect the rights of people who didn’t want it “in their face”. But if he wants to cast this as a respect thing, then why shouldn’t we expect the religious to respect the rights of atheists?  Of course that would be totally out of the question, wouldn’t it?  He  doesn’t respect gays, and by this time of the discussion, blacks and other minorities, at all.  He doesn’t want to see homosexuals.  Ever.  Anywhere.  He doesn’t want his kids to even know they exist.  It is a violation of his religious rights to even live in the same world as gays, and apparently blacks.

I had to point out that gays and blacks are born that way.  They have no choice in the matter.  But you know what isn’t inborn? Religion!  Religion is a choice!  You can choose which stupid beliefs you hold, most notably in this case, whether you think being gay is a sin.  So instead of expecting gays and blacks to hide so it doesn’t offend his delicate sensibilities, maybe he ought to just stop believing such ridiculous things in the first place.

And you know his response?  Religion isn’t a choice!  Apparently this imbecile thinks that religion is genetically determined.  He could not understand that people do not pop out of the womb believing in gods.  It was at that point in time that I just washed my hands of him, he had been on the forum for all of 4 days and had already completely blown any credibility he had.

Unfortunately, he’s not alone, there are plenty of these people who have zero credibility.  They have an extreme emotional attachment to their position, whatever it happens to be, and nothing anyone can say will ever sway them from their fanaticism. And when you point it out, they act like they’re the only ones in the right because they’ve got a mental block against even considering that they could possibly be wrong. In this case, this individual is so absolutely certain that his religion, and only his religion, is right, that anyone who doesn’t share his narrow-minded beliefs has to be wrong.  In fact, based on a lot of what he has said, apparently he thinks that everyone knows he’s right and is purposely rebelling against his God, for some bizarre reason, because they enjoy being reprobates.  Don’t ask me, it makes no more sense when he says it.

This is the legacy of people who believe things about which they have never applied rational thought and there are unfortunately a lot of them out there.  These are people who are so stupid, so deluded, so absolutely self-assured that everything they think has to be true because if it isn’t, their entire view of reality comes tumbling down, that they can’t even step back and examine their beliefs rationally.  They are entirely unable to be objective.  They just believe because believing is the only thing they are capable of doing.  That and being stupid.

Oranges Don’t Cause Rudeness

I know I’ve said something about this numerous times in the past, but I bring it up once again, not only because this has been an ongoing problem for years on end, but because people and their idiotic entitlement bullshit just keeps getting worse.

So as I’m writing this, it’s the day before Wondercon and I was out washing the cars, getting ready to pack up and go.  This Hispanic guy drives up into my driveway in a beat up car and says he wants to pick some oranges.  Sure, like that doesn’t happen four times a week.  So I tell him the same canned line that I tell everyone.  No, you cannot pick oranges.  This is a commercial grove.  The oranges are grown for sale.  They are not available for picking.  If you’d like some oranges, I’m sure the grocery store down the street would be more than happy to sell you some, in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if oranges from my grove were there.  I say it as nicely as I can.  This guy is a dick.  He gets mad at me because I won’t give him something for free that is being grown for sale.  That’s like asking someone working at Walmart if they can just take things from the store without paying for it.  In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these people actually tried that.  So I’ve got this pissed off Hispanic guy cussing me out because I won’t give him anything and I have to throw in the zinger, it is a crime in the state of California to pick fruit or vegetables from any commercial grove and we prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.  Hell, he’s already mad, what more could it hurt?  I’ve learned that just telling people no doesn’t matter, I’ve literally seen people who came to the door and asked to pick, upon being told no, just go out and do it anyhow.  They think I somehow owe them something.  If he comes back, he won’t be the first person I’ve taken a picture of picking fruit, along with their license plates and forwarded it to the police.  It helps to be friends with almost all of the cops in your town.

But this really is an ongoing problem.  The week before, I had one obnoxious lady who kept coming to the door.  I used to have a sign posted that explained the situation so we wouldn’t get knocks at all times of the day by people looking for freebies.  The sign got vandalized so I took it down and now just don’t answer the door unless it’s someone I know.  But this bitch not only rang the bell, when nobody came to the door, she banged on the door and started yelling “HELLO!”  Then she walked around to the back of the house and looked into my back yard and kept yelling.  The first time I heard her, I ignored her, a little shocked at what she was doing.  The second time that she did it, and this is about 6:30am that she’s pulling this, I got pissed.  I open the door and of course, she wants to raid my trees.  Who in the hell does she think she is, banging on the door, screaming, invading my privacy, because she wants some free fruit?  I told her where to shove it and slammed the door in her face.

I wouldn’t say if these were nice people who asked politely and accepted no as an answer.  I actually have some trees out there that aren’t commercial, I have some avocado trees that never get picked that I couldn’t care less if people take, but every single time, without exception, that I’ve told people they can pick from these specific trees, I find them out in the groves, filling up shopping bags with oranges.  Every single time.  So I don’t do that anymore.  I tried to be nice.  I was taken advantage of multiple times.  I’m sick of it.

If I could get away with planting landmines out there, I would.  I honestly priced razor wire once.  It’s bad enough that I had someone try to commit suicide out in the groves a couple of months ago, only to crawl to my door, trailing blood all over the place, and bang on it so I could call her an ambulance.  I guess that’s better than finding a dead body out there, but come on.

What the hell is wrong with these people?  Why do they think that anything they see is theirs for the taking and if someone tells them otherwise, they can get pissy and probably just try to take it anyhow?  Fuck these people.  Just fuck ’em.

Progressives Want No Consequences

It always surprises me to watch liberals argue for zero consequences for their actions.  I know it shouldn’t since I’ve seen it so often, but every single time you’d think there’s no way in hell they couldn’t see where they went wrong this time, they always come back and act like victims of their own stupidity, as though their own stupidity isn’t their fault.

So it should come as no surprise that Melissa Click, disgraced assistant professor from the University of Missouri, is now trying to get sympathy for her ridiculous actions, pretending that just because she isn’t perfect, she shouldn’t be held accountable for the things that she did.  There was a Washington Post article that she wrote where she had some quotes that I wanted to respond to.

If you have had any exposure to American media in the last four months, you know the quick decision I made to stand with the students, you’ve seen my inexperience with public protests, and you’ve heard my apologies for the mistakes I made while offering my support to the students working to make MU a more inclusive environment.

Maybe the biggest lesson Click needs to take from this is not to jump into things half-cocked.  Her inexperience and supposed quick decisions led her to make errors in judgement that cost her employment and credibility nationwide.  She became the poster child for the irrationality of the regressive left wing.  She goes throughout the article repeating that she made “mistakes” and “errors”, yet not once does she ever take any responsibility for those “mistakes” and “errors”.  Not once.

But I do not understand the widespread impulse to shame those whose best intentions unfortunately result in imperfect actions. What would our world be like if no one ever took a chance? What if everyone played it safe?

There is a thing in this country called civil disobedience.  The left seem to have forgotten what it means.  The whole purpose of civil disobedience is to violate the law and be held accountable for your actions, such that your punishment points out whatever social ills you were intending to put on display.  However, the illiberal left today doesn’t want consequences.  They don’t want to be accountable.  They want their cake so they can chow down on it too.  That’s not how it works.  If you don’t want to play it safe, that’s fine.  Just don’t expect that taking chances won’t come with inherent risks.

Reaction to the footage containing my errors has resulted in months of scrutiny and most recently the loss of my job.

No, it wasn’t a reaction to the footage, it was the consequences of your actions that cost you your job and your respectability. Whether you used your job specifically in these actions, your position as a representative of the University caused problems when combined with your actions.  As a representative of a state-funded school, you cannot engage in violations of the first amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America.  You cannot violate the freedom of the press by calling for muscle to get reporters, even student reporters, removed from a public area.  And your actions brought shame and bad publicity on the University by becoming a national laughing stock.  You got canned because actions have consequences.

While I continue to fight the MU Board of Curators’ decision to terminate my employment without due process and in violation of university policy, I am also working to come to terms with how a few captured moments of imperfection could eclipse 12 years of excellence.

It only takes one horrific decision to ruin a lifetime of achievement, but instead of just one bad decision, you made at least two in very short order.  You thought you were untouchable.  You thought your political views, no matter how popular they might be with some of the student body, made you invulnerable to discipline.  You were wrong.  You can appeal all you like, they’re not going to change their minds, nor should they.   You fucked up.  Welcome to the real world.

But beyond my specific circumstances, I believe this situation raises broader cultural, ethical, and legal questions about how surveillance and social media significantly impact the terrain of public engagement.

They actually improve it.  Where once you might have gotten away with this, a small time professor at a small time school, today you are held accountable for your actions like never before.  You don’t deserve to get away with violating the laws and the rights of students because you have a SJW bug up your backside.  Gone are the days when you can do what you wish without thinking about it and pretend it never happened later.  This is a good thing.

I don’t want to live in a world where citizens are too afraid of public scorn to take a chance. Do you?

It isn’t public scorn that caused your downfall, it is the consequences of your actions that did.  You took actions, however mistaken you want to pretend they were, that caused bad publicity and opened up your employer to legal challenges.  You were not worth enough for them to fight for you, especially after you essentially peed in their pool.  Why is this such a surprise to you?  Oh wait, because you don’t understand that consequences exist!  This is really just an appeal to consequences, a logical fallacy.  She is saying that because you wouldn’t want to live in a world where no one took any chances, she should just be able to get away with her idiotic actions.

Yeah, fuck you Melissa Click.  You got what you deserved.

Safe Spaces for Illegal Aliens

You know, this liberal shit is getting ridiculous.  Or should I call it progressive shit?  Or regressive left shit?  I don’t even know anymore.  It all falls on the political left so I’ll just stop there.  Anyhow, a couple of weeks ago, I did a video over on YouTube about the utter insanity on modern universities, as regressives are now complaining that their education is getting in the way of their activism, as if they are totally unaware why they are in school at all.  I’ll link to that at the bottom of this post.  However, lest you think that was some isolated incident at some crazy school, it is nothing of the sort.

Liberal protesters at several California and Arizona college campuses are now demanding that their schools cut all ties with the Border Patrol, which is often on campus recruiting, because, get this, it might offend illegal alien students who go to school there.

I’ll stop for a moment to let the stupidity sink in.

Now I shouldn’t have to point out just how idiotic the idea of state-run government schools being told to deny access to governmental agencies is.  But the fact that they are demanding it because it might make people who have absolutely no legal right whatsoever to be there in the first place unhappy is just absurd to the highest degree.  That’s like saying universities have to keep the IRS off campus because it might make people who haven’t paid their taxes nervous.  Well here’s a suggestion, if you’re not supposed to be there, GO HOME!  If you haven’t paid your taxes, PAY THEM!  Don’t act like you have a right to violate the law and then not be made to feel bad about it.  You ought to feel bad!  That’s the whole point!

It isn’t like the Border Patrol is there to hunt down these illegal criminal aliens and drag them back across the border, although they certainly should, they’re just there to recruit new employees, just like any of the other companies that routinely set up booths on college campuses across the country.  But “oh no!”, actually being held accountable for your illegal actions, or being made to feel potentially unsafe, that’s somehow “triggering”.  Well cry me a fucking river, you’re criminals, stop whining and get your asses back across the border!

You know, I’d almost think this was an April Fool’s joke, if it didn’t show up in the middle of March.  So that makes leftist political rhetoric indistinguishable from intentional humor.  That’s a Poe in anyone’s book.

Don’t Be An Experian Dick!

There have been some Experian commercials running on the radio recently and the more I hear them, one in particular, the more they make me angry.  Oh, it has nothing to do with knowing your FICO score, it has to do with the fact that every single person in these commercials who gets their score from Experian is a fucking dick.

They tell you to get your “credit swagger on”, but instead, they are just fricking pricks.  Apparently this is part of a larger media campaign, but since I don’t watch TV commercials, I wasn’t aware of it.  I tried to find a recording of the radio commercial in question and was unable to, so I’m going to have to describe it to you.  It starts off with some woman checking out an exclusive apartment and the snobby apartment manager telling her that she needs a credit check. Oh, but thanks to the tools on Experian, she has a high credit rating, so hey bitch, cross out the no-pet clause in the lease and while you’re at it, I have this wolf hybrid that I’m going to put into your no pet community, fuck you very much.

No, fuck you right back bitch, get your stupid dog out of here, I don’t care what your goddamn credit score is.  That doesn’t give you the right to just ignore community rules because you’ve got your head up your ass.  That’s kind of how all of these commercials are, there isn’t a respectable, respectful educated Experian customer in the lot, they’re all complete assholes who think that somehow knowing their FICO score makes them special little flowers that get their way.  This isn’t knowledge as power, it’s knowledge as exceptionalism and it pisses me off.

Come on Experian, can’t you do any better than that?  Or are you suggesting that the people who use your credit tracker are a bunch of entitled shitheads that treat everyone else like crap?  If so, fuck you too.

Why Do These People Have Jobs?

Seriously, I have to keep wondering, and this is almost always in the deep south, but why do these idiots have jobs? Why do the people in the south keep electing these morons to represent them?  Okay, yes, the reason is because the voters are just as stupid as they representatives they elect, but I’m really getting tired of that as an excuse.

So in Tennessee, as should come as no surprise, the Blount County commissioners plan to take up a resolution begging God to forgive them for the recent Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage.  Commissioner Karen Miller’s proposed resolution will grovel before an imaginary friend and promises “to protect Natural Marriage, from lawless court opinions, AND THE financial schemes of the enemies of righteousness wherever the source AND defend the Moral Standards of Tennessee.”

Well guess what?  You already have an oath that you swore to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and, whether you like it or not, that includes the decisions of the Supreme Court.  Just like the whole Kim Davis thing, you don’t get to have your cake and eat it too.  You don’t get to draw a government check and then refuse to do all the things that you swore you’d do when you were elected to office.  It just doesn’t work that way.

Now of course, this is a pointless resolution, it means nothing at all and talking to imaginary friends in the sky isn’t going to change the crappy conditions that exist in Tennessee.  But part of the resolution also includes, get this, asking God to move his wrath to someone else.  Yes, they’re trying to sic God on some other unsuspecting state because they’re properly scraping and genuflecting.

And these people have jobs.  Why?  Why are the people of Tennessee so damn stupid?  And the people of Alabama?  And the people of Georgia and Texas and Arkansas and Florida and the whole messed up lot of them?  Sure, I know that not all of them are to blame, there are plenty of people who are pissed off at this resolution, but apparently, enough people support this kind of religious bullshit that these idiots keep getting into office.

Sorry, I will never understand that.

The Stupidity of Gun Control

This kind of stuff is rampant among the left, and I know that I’m saying a lot about the left recently, but a lot of this garbage has come floating to the surface recently.  This is probably no more true when it comes to the gun banning arguments that the liberals make, particularly following well-publicized shootings.  Whether or not these shootings are all that common of not seems irrelevant to them, the fact that the media is following the “if it bleeds, it leads” mentality and these gullible idiots are so programmed to look for it in the media, it’s no surprise that this comes up a lot.

And along with the stories come the idiots, like this one who thinks that for gun control, the only way anyone should be given a license for a firearm is to voluntarily take a bullet.  Yes, it is as stupid as it sounds. Salon writer D. Watkins thinks that the only way anyone ought to be able to get a permit for a gun is to stand up against a wall and get a bullet through a hopefully-non-lethal body part.

But that’s about as stupid as saying that the only way to get a license to drive a car is to get your ass run over.  Or if you want to buy rat poison, you have to be willing to swallow a hopefully-non-lethal amount?  After all, there are a lot more vehicular deaths in America than gun deaths and lots more people get poisoned than get shot.  But no, they have an irrational fear of guns, therefore, they demand people shoot themselves to get access to a gun.

The problem is, that’s just stupid.  The last people you want to give a gun to is a crazy person who is willing to take a bullet, those are people who are abnormal and insane.  But of course, liberals don’t think this stuff out very well.  Okay, more properly, liberals don’t think very well.  They feel.  They react.  They do not reason.  That’s the biggest problem with the liberal mindset, it’s the one that I generally complain about most often because it is absurdly true.

So, D. Watkins, if you want to be allowed to own a pen, please plunge it into your eye first.  Or if you want to use a laptop, smash it into your face repeatedly.  Prove you really want it.  Maybe you’ll just beat yourself into unconsciousness and we won’t have to read any more stupidity from you.  Wouldn’t that be nice?

So Ignorant They Don’t Know They’re Ignorant

I know I’ve spoken at times about the theists who are so completely buried in their own mythology that they aren’t even aware that there’s anything outside of their mythology.  I ran into another one that got me rolling my eyes, this time a Jehovah’s Witness who was so impressed with what he considered Biblical prophecies, that when I pointed out to him that there were more credible explanations for his supposed prophecies, he freaked out.

So he came with those wonderful claims that the Bible authors knew things about the world that they couldn’t possibly have known, like the claim that the earth is a circle (Isaiah 40:22), that the earth hangs on nothing (Job 26:7) and that the universe spreads out (Job 9:8).  Now the last of these is complete nonsense, it is an assertion taken from a few words that is not defensible in any way, but the first two might be interesting if you didn’t know the ancient Hebrew conception of the universe.  Of course, if you do understand it, then these claims fit right in with this idea, an idea that is factually and ridiculously false.

But try telling that to this guy, who refuses to acknowledge anything that happens outside of the Bible.  His entire education in issues of mythology comes from between the covers of that book and if it doesn’t appear there, it doesn’t exist.  So I show him the above picture, a picture, by the way, which comes from the Logos Bible Company, but he just can’t accept it.  Never mind that it explains all of his claims perfectly well.  The ancient Hebrews believed that the world was a disk that floated upon the waters, held up by a rocky foundation.  Over the top was a hard firmament, upon which were the stars and other heavenly bodies.  Like pretty much all ancient peoples, the Hebrews were completely ignorant of how the universe actually operated. Their writings reflected that ignorance.  But here we have a guy who is not only equally ignorant of the way the universe works, he’s so ignorant that he doesn’t even know how ignorant he actually is!  And worse yet, he’s proud of it!  He can’t conceive of being wrong and that’s what makes discussing the matter with him so utterly  frustrating and pointless.

So I stopped and he’s still crowing how he won the encounter, but when you’re that absurdly ignorant, when you’re so proud of your lack of information that you refuse to fill in the holes in your knowledge, then you’re just a lost cause and that, I’m afraid, describes a large majority of active religious believers in the world today.  Not only do they not know anything about the real world, they don’t want to know.  They’d rather remain clueless than find out the actual truth that may disagree with their heartfelt religious beliefs.  To anyone reading, if that describes you, then you need some serious help, you have abrogated your responsibility to be a critical thinking,  rational and intellectual human being.  It isn’t something to be proud of.  It’s something to hang your head in shame over.

Liberals Don’t Understand Space

I can honestly say I cannot understand this at all, but looking at it and understanding liberals and especially progressives, it really doesn’t surprise me at all.  Back in the early 1970s, we sent the Pioneer 10 spacecraft into space.  It had a golden plaque which tried to explain, in simple terms, who had sent the probe.  It had a picture of a male and female human and a depiction of our solar system, all in hopes that if someone found it, dozens or maybe hundreds of years in the future, they might have some idea who we are and, perhaps, where to find us.

You might think this is very simple stuff, but no, not for modern-day progressives who don’t care about contacting alien life, they only care about their own political and ideological agendas.  At a recent conference in Leeds, England, a group of British scientists who work for SETI, entered a contest to design another plaque that might tell aliens about the human species, but of course, nothing is that easy.  Now, you have radical feminists and other progressive assholes who don’t want to tell aliens who we are, they desperately want to pass along a politically correct message so the aliens are aware of their liberal views on sexuality, gender, leftist social views, etc.  It’s just  going to guarantee that no alien in their right mind will ever visit our planet because we’ll have scared them away.

According to Jill Stewart, a supposed expert on space policy at the London School of Economics, “The plaque shows a man raising his hand in a very manly fashion while a woman stands behind him, appearing all meek and submissive. We really need to rethink that with any messages we are sending out now. Attitudes have changed so much in just 40 years.”

No, you moron, the plaque shows nothing of the kind.  It shows a man and a woman standing side by side, she isn’t behind him. He is raising his hand in greeting, not in a “manly fashion”.  Are you people really that stupid?  Others have raised criticism that the man and woman are supposedly white and therefore, not representative of our racial diversity.  Honestly, you can’t say what race they are, they are line drawings and no shading would actually work in this situation, they could be just about any race if you wanted them to be.

This whole thing is really absurd, the whole purpose of sending a picture, or any signal for that matter, is to greet potential alien species that might come across them!  It isn’t to hold an in-depth cultural debate.  It isn’t to show aliens that we’ve got a bunch of morons running the show.  This isn’t about human attitudes, this is about passing along information that may take hundreds, or thousands, or even millions of years to be found, if it ever is.  Attitudes on Earth may have changed in the last 40 years, but Pioneer 10 is still in our local neighborhood of space.  Pioneer 10 is only about 15.4 billion kilometers away from us. That’s a stone’s throw in interstellar terms.  It will take millions of years to get out as far as our closest stellar neighbor, a mere 4.5 light years distant.  By the time anyone might find it, we could very well be extinct as a species.  In that time, even if we are  still around, our attitudes as a species may have changed hundreds of times.  It doesn’t matter what we thought 40 years ago or what we think today or what we might think in another century, all of these are minuscule in terms of interstellar space travel. These liberal idiots have to get the hell over themselves and remember what the point of sending vehicles into space at all is, to make contact with whatever alien life might be out there.  It is not to convince them that we’re too brain damaged to be bothered with, or that we deserve to be exterminated for the good of the interstellar community.  Let’s not let liberal stupidity infect another planet like it has ours.  We owe it to the universe to keep our insanity home.

Convenient Catholicism

How-about-I-just-smack-the-stupid-out-of-you-patch-300x213Oh look, more stupid Catholics!  What a surprise!  This time out, a crazy fundamentalist Catholic tries to defend the Catholic Church and Catholicism and their hiding of pedophile priests by redefining words and playing the statistics game.

The disagreement was that the Catholic Church has blatantly tried to defend pedophile priests and hide them from prosecution. There is no real argument here, all of this is clearly true.  However, in a desperate attempt to defend and support the Vatican, now we’re seeing one fundamentalist Catholic twist reality to the breaking point and beyond.

This guy tries to say that the Catholic Church isn’t just the people running the thing, it isn’t just the priests and the bishops and the rest of the clergy, the Catholic Church is 1.2 billion people who belong to the church and since there aren’t that many pedophile priests statistically against that large number, accounting for everyone that sits in the pews once in a while, that pedophila is really not a big deal!  Feel free to face-palm.

That’s like saying that we can’t criticize Wal-Mart because millions and millions of people shop there and therefore, Wal-Mart is a massive organization, larger than many countries, and therefore any wrongdoing is so minuscule as to be irrelevant!  It’s like saying the U.S. government never does anything wrong because we’re going to consider all 320 million Americans part of the government and you can’t possibly blame all of them, can you?

It amazes me the lengths that some of these theists will go to support and defend their religious organizations and beliefs. They will never admit that any of them could ever do anything wrong, so no matter how much it looks like they are guilty of crimes and moral failures, there has to be some way to spin the facts, distort the stories and twist the narrative so that their church of choice comes out smelling like a rose, even if the rose smells a bit of bullshit.

I really don’t know what more to say about this, you can’t reason these people out of a position they never reasoned themselves into, it just leaves me shaking my head at the utter stupidity of the religious and the complete failure of logic for some members of the human species.

Debating the Religiously Incredulous

How I feel debating these idiots.

I keep running into people on religious debate boards that are convinced that if they hold a religious position, they have no responsibility at all to defend any of their claims whatsoever, just because they are religious.  Of course, they hold everyone else accountable for answering any questions put to them, but questions they can’t answer?  It’s just not their job!

Recently, I had someone go into a whole long diatribe where he argued that “Christianity doesn’t make factual claims about the real world. It does make theological claims and mythological claims.”  Okay, so he’s saying that the Christian God doesn’t exist in reality, because Christianity only makes mythological claims and not factual ones?  Nope, God is real… but not real enough to actually make any Christians have to back up his existence.

Now forgive me if I don’t understand how anyone can possibly think this way, especially someone who pretends to be at all rational and critical about their beliefs.  If your claims are wholly beyond any kind of real-world evaluation, then how can you possibly test them in any demonstrable way?  And if you can’t test them, then how can you be sure that they are reasonable at all?  This is the big question that I keep asking theists and the question that they all side-step and ignore.  If you have no way of objectively observing God, how can you know anything about the existence or characteristics of God?  If you cannot verify anything, how can you know that it isn’t all a big delusion?  If they refuse to step beyond their own imagination, then why should anyone else take their claims seriously?  How do you get from step A to step B?  They can’t and they know they can’t and they don’t even pretend that they can, or even should have to.  If it makes them feel good, that’s all that matters.

But that doesn’t stop them from continually making claims that must be borne out in the real world.  They claim that God actually exists, that God actually had some hand in the creation of the universe, that Jesus was a real person that died on a cross and rose from the dead, yet none of these claims are demonstrable, yet they all must have happened in the real world. There is a fundamental disconnect between the claims that they make and the reality that must be demonstrably true if their claims are true, yet they cannot bridge that gap and they refuse to acknowledge the requirement that they should.

So what do we do about it?  Nothing.  There is literally nothing we can do about it, you can’t force these people to engage in rational debate in good faith.  All you can really do is point out their hypocrisy and stop talking to them, which I’ve done in many cases, only to have them come back and pretend they won the debate because you refuse to engage.  It makes me just want to cancel my membership to a lot of these debate forums some days.  It’s all just a waste of time.

It Isn’t Fucking Racist, Liberals!

racist1Last night, I was watching the new MTV series based on the Scream movie franchise and while I’ll eventually do a review of the season over on my other blog, there was a place in the second episode where a guy is waiting for a girl he likes on a football field and she sneaks up behind him, puts her hands over his eyes and he says something along the line of “wow, you’re like a ninja!” and she says “that’s racist!”  Fuck you, it isn’t racist, it’s a completely accurate analogy for someone who sneaks up on another person.  The fact that she’s Asian has no bearing on the analogy.  Fuck you people.

But that’s the kind of thing that I get so sick of hearing.  Everything is racist.  No it isn’t! This seems to be one of the new code-words on the left, that everything, everywhere is somehow racist.  Well, unless you’re a liberal college professor who tells all white people everywhere to commit mass suicide because they’re all responsible for slavery.  But that’s somehow not racist, although I can’t figure out why.

Let’s look at the definition of racism for a moment.  It means “the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.”  Nothing in my example at the top of the article fits into that definition.  Nobody was saying all Asian people are ninjas, in fact, the joke doesn’t change no matter what race the girl happened to be.  It could have been a particularly stealthy black guy in a wheelchair and calling him a ninja still makes sense.

Of course, once  you realize that this is just a general purpose insult for the left, it all starts to make sense.  Nobody wants to be considered racist so when idiots on the left start accusing people of it, even for things that are absurdly not racist at all, they’re hoping people will change their ways because they’ve been accused of something unsavory.  In fact, the left uses far more racist rhetoric than anyone else.  Between Democratic Representatives saying they don’t like Supreme Court Justices because they’re an “Uncle Tom” to Louis Farrakhan praising Hitler as a great man, the examples are widespread.   Yeah, these people have no clue what the word means because it’s just a social sledge hammer to them.

Having just re-watched The Princess Bride on the 4th of July, it brings to mind the words of Inigo Montoya:

The Religious Whine Game

Damascus-Saydnaya-Syria-Iraqi-refugees-Christian-Mosul-boy-cryingHere’s another one I’m sick to death of.  When did the religious lose their backbone and decide that whining was the tool to get their way?  People who now sit and pout and complain that doing their jobs somehow contradicts their deeply held religious beliefs, yet they still want to keep getting paid for doing a job they don’t want to do.  What the hell?

This kind of “you’re violating my religious freedom!” only came back into vogue following the awful Supreme Court decision with Hobby Lobby, now people think that they can declare anything they want to be part of their deeply held religious convictions and therefore, they get to break the law with impunity because their religion comes first.  That is an insanely disastrous ideology that spells death to our democratic way of doing things in the United States, but as I’ve taken to saying far too often lately, they just don’t care.

But let’s be honest, the religious right doesn’t really think this way, they want religious freedom for themselves, but not for anyone else.  If there were Muslims out there who decided that their religious convictions prohibit them from serving Christians, the Christians would be out in force screaming discrimination.  If there were atheist bookstores that refused to stock religious books, it would be a travesty.  If liberals got to declare that they didn’t want to serve Republicans in their stores or allow them to use their services, you can be sure there would be a riot.  This isn’t about religious freedom, it’s about one small group of Christian sects trying to get back political and social power that they’ve lost.

Well guess what?  You didn’t have that power taken from you unfairly, you lost it  because you pissed people off and they got sick and tired of you and took it away.  You lost it because you deserved to lose it. You lost it because you abused your authority and made everyone else mad.  You also lost it because all of the threats you’ve been making have turned out to be empty and hollow.  God is going to punish us?  When is that coming again?  You’ve been making the same kind of nonsensical threat for hundreds of years and so far… nothing.  We’re done playing your silly game.  You lost because you’re just wrong.  Maybe it’s time that you rented a clue, everyone else has.

So please, stop whining, stop crying, just get over yourselves and deal with reality.  Your idiotic beliefs do not  get to run roughshod over the law and over everyone else, just because you’ve got something wrong with your rationality circuits. If and when you can prove what you’re saying is true, show us your evidence.  We won’t hold our breath because we know it’s a load of crap, but you’re welcome to try.  Maybe you ought to spend more time dragging your ridiculous beliefs out of the stone age and into the modern world, where magic and miracles and imaginary friends in the sky just aren’t impressive anymore.  It isn’t the world that is discriminating against you, it’s you that’s being too damn stupid for the world.  You ought to change that.

More Answers to Christian Responses

Every now and then, I’ll find a list of religious questions for atheists, supposedly aiming to take down the evil heretics, and answer them.  Invariably, they are chock full of irrationality and ignorance and even though the answers are easily available online, theists have no interest in looking them up, or accepting them even if they do.  Here’s ten quick responses to ten supposed atheist questions, written by Heather Tomlinson, that I wanted to further explore, to show where Heather, and to be honest most theists, get it all absurdly wrong.

1) You don’t believe in Zeus, Thor and all the other gods. I just go one god more than you, and reject the Christian God.

The problem with this idea is that ‘gods’ such as Zeus and Thor are not comparable with the biblical understanding of God.

“There is a vast distinction between all of the Ancient near eastern gods and the God of the Bible,” said Prof Lennox. “They are products of the primeval mass and energy of the universe. The God of the Bible created the heavens and the earth”.

This immediately betrays one of the many holes in Christian thinking, the idea that Zeus and Thor somehow need to be compatible with the Bible.  That’s like saying the Christian God has to be compatible with the Enuma Elish.  How many Christians do you think would be down with that?  I know that this Professor Lennox person debated Dawkins, there’s a video of the pre-show at the end and I’m sure you can go look up the whole debate on YouTube, but just reading this crap from Lennox does not impress me in the least and the way that Heather spends all of her time quoting this guy, like anything he says means anything, just shows she’s spending her time bobbing on his theological knob without ever asking herself if these ideas make any sense.

2) Science has explained everything, and it doesn’t include God.

Science cannot answer certain kinds of questions, such as ‘what is ethical?’ and ‘what is beautiful?’ Even when it comes to questions about the natural world, which science does explore and can sometimes answer, there are different types of explanations for different things.

“God no more competes with science as an explanation of the universe than Henry Ford competes with the law of internal combustion as an explanation of the motor car,” says Prof Lennox.

Nobody has ever said science has explained everything, otherwise we wouldn’t need science any more.  However, it is a true fact that, to date at least, science hasn’t found anything that it couldn’t explain in purely naturalistic ways.  There is no need for God.  Oh, and Professor Lennox, there is no law of internal combustion.  You are an idiot.

3) Science is opposed to God.

There are certain conceptions of a ‘god’ that might be opposed to science, but not the Christian God. There might be certain kinds of ‘gods’ that are invented to explain things we don’t understand, but they’re not Christian.

“If we’re being offered a choice between science and god… it is not a biblical concept of god,” said Prof Lennox. “The biblical God is not a god of the gaps, but a God of the whole show. The bits we do understand [through science] and the bits we don’t.

“Among many leading thinkers, their idea of god is thoroughly pagan. If you define god to be a god of the gaps, then you have got to offer a choice between science and god.”

Again, I don’t think anyone has ever said this. Science is neutral to the idea of God. Science follows evidence to conclusions. Not one line of evidence has ever led to God.  He is correct, among many leading thinkers, the idea of god is “pagan”, although I think he probably means “foreign”.  So is the idea of unicorns.  Or leprechauns.  Or wizards on flying brooms casting spells at each other.  These ideas are absurd and completely without intellectual merit.

4) You can’t prove that there is a God.

This kind of statement ignores that there are different kinds of ‘proof’.

“Can you prove that there is a God?” asked Prof Lennox. “In the mathematical sense no, but proving anything is very difficult. The word proof has two meanings. There’s the rigorous meaning in maths that is very difficult to do and rare. But then there’s the other meaning – beyond reasonable doubt”.

That’s the kind of ‘proof’ we can present: arguments to bring someone beyond reasonable doubt. For example, rational arguments such as those from philosophers Alvin Plantinga and William Lane Craig, the personal experience of Christians, and the witness of the gospel accounts in the Bible.

Then by all means, prove God beyond reasonable doubt.  Do something.  Provide some objective evidence.  Of course, we know they can’t, but it’s interesting to note that they dismiss the same philosophical claims for other gods that they expect everyone to accept for their own.  The “personal experience of Christians” is supposed to be credible but the personal experience of Hindus is not.  The gospel accounts in the Bible are supposed to be valid but the accounts in the Qur’an are not.  And those supposed rational arguments have been completely discredited, yet shysters like Craig continue to use the same claims over and over again.  He doesn’t care about reality, in fact, he’s already said that even if he had absolute and undeniable proof that God didn’t exist, he’d continue to believe anyhow.  That is not the sign of a rational person.

5) Faith is believing without any evidence.

Christian belief has never been about having no evidence: the gospels were written to provide evidence, as the beginning of Luke’s attests. The end of John’s gospel says, “These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”

But believing without evidence is a common notion of ‘faith’ at present. “This definition is in the dictionary and believed by many,” said Prof Lennox. “So, when we talk about faith in Christ, they think that’s because there’s no evidence. [John’s gospel shows that] Christianity is an evidence-based faith.”

The gospels are no more evidence than the Qur’an or the Vedas are.  They cannot be verified to be true and verifiability is one of the hallmarks of evidence.  The Bible is, at best, heresay.  If you actually have evidence, you don’t need faith.  I have no faith in gravity, I can test it any time I want and so can you. The fact that the religious continue to profess faith is proof that they have nothing of substance to present.

6) Faith is a delusion. I’d no more believe in God than I would in the Easter Bunny, Father Christmas or the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

These ideas have been made famous by people such as Prof Richard Dawkins. The only thing they are good for is mockery.

“Statements by scientists are not always statements of science,” said Prof Lennox. “Stephen Hawking said, “religion is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark”. I said, “atheism is a fairy story for people afraid of the light”.

“Neither of those statements proves anything at all. They’re all reversible. What lies behind all these delusion claims is the Freudian idea of wish fulfilment [that we believe what we hope to be true.] This works brilliantly providing there is no god. But if there is a god, then atheism is wish fulfilment.”

In this case, Dawkins is entirely correct.  Any belief which cannot be substantiated by objective evidence is not rational. It is delusion.  Some guy on a street corner talking to an invisible alien is considered mentally unstable.  The same guy on a street corner talking to an invisible god isn’t.  There’s no difference between the two, one is just socially acceptable and the other is not.  Both people have bad brain chemistry that cause them to think something that is not demonstrably real is actually there.

7) Christianity claims to be true, but there loads of denominations and they all disagree with each other, so it must be false.
Why does the existence of denominations imply Christianity is false? It might imply that Christians have very different personalities and cultures – or even that Christians aren’t good at getting on with each other – but not that Christianity isn’t true.

“There are all kinds of different kinds of teams in football, but they all play football,” said Prof Lennox.

But these denominations aren’t just various clubs, they all believe different things about Christianity, many of them diametrically opposed.  Football teams are all playing the same game under the same rules.  The more than 43,000 distinct sects of Christianity are not.  This Lennox guy is a complete moron and so is Heather for paying any attention at all.

8) The Bible is immoral.

If you want to question the morality of the Bible, what basis does that morality have? There can be a serious contradiction within atheist criticisms. Dawkins wrote: “In a universe of electrons and selfish genes, blind physical forces and genetic replication, some people are going to get hurt, other people are going to get lucky, and you won’t find any rhyme or reason in it, nor any justice. The universe that we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but pitiless indifference.”

If this is true, then why does he question the morality of anything? “Dawkins says faith is evil,” said Prof Lennox. “But at the same time he abolishes the categories of good and evil. That doesn’t make sense.”

There are certainly a lot of things in the Bible that we would consider immoral today, there’s no question about that. Slavery, murder, rape, etc. are all spoken of favorably in the Bible.  Are you unaware of that?  Lennox can’t change what’s in the Bible so he tries to take an end-run around without addressing it.  Indefensible faith is indefensible.

9) Surely you don’t take the Bible literally?

Some atheists (and a few Christians) have a very black and white idea of how to interpret the Bible. You either have to take it ‘literally’ or chuck it away, they think. That ignores the reality of language and how it reflects truth.

“Jesus said ‘I’m the door’,” said Prof Lennox. “Is Jesus a door like a door over there? No. He is not a literal door, but he is a real door into a real experience of God. Metaphor stands for reality. The word ‘literal’ is useless.”

I don’t think any atheists think that the Bible, or any religious book for that matter, ought to be taken literally, but if you do not, the question of how you know that your interpretation is the correct interpretation, especially considering the thousands and thousands of other sects who interpret it differently, arises.  How do you know?  How do you defend your view?  How do you decide what is metaphorical and what is not?  Some people take the Adam and Eve story literally.  Some do not.  Some people take the flood story literally.  Some do not.  If you think you get to pick and choose what parts of the Bible are really true and reject the ones you don’t like, then you’re no longer being a rational individual.  Produce a demonstrable standard.  Otherwise, why can’t I just reject all of it as fantasy and be just as valid as you?

10) What is the evidence for God?
You can debate the existence of God until the cows come home. It can be very interesting, especially when you go into the detail and explore the subject in depth. But for an atheist, they might be missing the point or avoiding the real issue. Prof Lennox advises to ask them the most important question:

“Suppose I could give [evidence for God], would you be prepared right now, to repent and trust Christ?”

Of course there are more in-depth answers to all of these claims – try out videos of debates between Prof Lennox and Prof Dawkins like this one:

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxD-HPMpTto’]

If there is solid evidence for the existence of God, then yes, I would accept said God as real.  I may or may not worship such a God, especially given his behavior in the Old Testament, but I accept things based on evidence.  Here’s the reverse question though, if I could give you evidence against God, would you be prepared right now, to reject belief in God and Jesus and give up your Christianity?  No?  Didn’t think so.

Ultimately, I’ve seen a ton of these things and every single one is laughably pathetic.  Why should anyone take these things seriously when a toddler could poke holes in them?  It really betrays the utter absurdity of religious belief, that anyone with any kind of education whatsoever should be able to see straight through the massive problems with these arguments, yet apparently, the blindly faithful cannot, or at least they refuse to acknowledge them.  It’s really quite silly and that’s why atheists laugh at the religious.

Liberals Don’t Understand Mythology

Sarcophagus_with_the_Abduction_of_Persephone_by_Hades_(detail)Every time I think that the craziness of radical liberals has gone as far as it can go, I find an even more bizarre story of lefty loons gone out of their minds.  Strap in, here we go again.

The Washington Post reports that students at Columbia University are demanding that classes on Greek mythology need to have trigger warnings because some of the things found in these ancient myths could just be triggering to modern students. According to one unnamed “woman of color” quoted in the article, she was unable to handle reading Ovid’s “Metamorphoses” because it included depictions of rape and sexual assault against Daphne and Persephone.  She was unable to engage with the class, even though she admits that the teacher never brought up those ideas in the classroom.  How horrible!

But I thought these were supposed to be adults who ought to be able to handle such things.  If they can’t these idiots have no business voting or drinking or doing any of the other things that we expect people to be adults to do.  They are just emotionally stunted children in the bodies of young adults and this is the future of this nation?  No wonder we’re so screwed.

It’s becoming clear as time goes on that radical liberals are idiots.  According to Elizabeth Nolan Brown in Reason. “Apparently this discussion of Ovid was so threatening it was a matter of self-preservation to ignore it. If that’s really true — if the mere discussion of rape causes this student to feel panicked and physically unsafe — than she needs help treating severe post-traumatic stress disorder, not a f—— trigger warning.”

Harvey Silverglate wrote in the Wall Street Journal, “What should be the object of derision, a focus for satire, is instead the subject of serious faux academic discussion and precautionary warnings. For this disorder there is no effective quarantine. A whole generation of students soon will have imbibed the warped notions of justice and entitlement now handed down as dogma in the universities.”

Even sex blogger Susannah Breslin says that feminists and other far left idiots are overdoing it, that they are using the term “like a Southern cook applies Pam cooking spray to an overused nonstick frying pan.”  Yet it continues to happen, crazy leftists are demanding that some schools force professors to put trigger warnings on their curriculum and allow people to opt out of classes that may contain “content that may trigger the onset of symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.”

I’m sorry, if you legitimately have PTSD, seek professional psychiatric help.  You don’t need a trigger warning, you need a psychiatrist.  Yet these stories come in from across the country, with more and more demands that no one ever be personally offended by anything for any reason.  They’re even claiming that a classroom filled with white students is a racial microaggression and has to be stopped.  Are these people out of their minds?  The answer is yes and that’s what liberalism does to people.
