We’ve come to part 3, “Taking on systems that privilege the wealthy and powerful to demand a government and economy that works for the people.” Except the left doesn’t care about the people. They are only pushing their agenda and screw everyone else. This is a 5-part section, so I don’t expect it to take very long, but I’m reasonably sure I won’t agree with any of it. Let’s see.
I’m taking this from The Progressive Promise, which is a platform statement from the House of Representatives. Unfortunately, like all platform statements, what it says doesn’t stand up in actual reality. Yes, I know that this is not what all progressives believe and that it is being stated in the most attractive way possible to attract people to vote for them, but still, this is why I cannot stand any of these positions.
Ensuring regulation of industry with strong consumer protections.
Except they don’t. They are not concerned about the consumers at all. They are only concerned about their own ideological purity.
Here’s an example. My lawnmower broke down. I don’t know what’s wrong with it, I replaced the carburetor and pretty much the entire fuel system and it still doesn’t start. I called a local repair place and it would cost more to just have them look at it, not doing any work at all, than to just buy a new one.
So I jumped on Amazon to order a new one. Of the dozen or so different models of lawnmower in the $150-200 range, only 2 of them could be shipped to California because California is desperately trying to eliminate gasoline from the state. By 2035, they’re trying to eliminate all gas-powered cars from sale. The gas taxes in California are the highest in the nation, by far. They don’t care about consumers, they care about their environmental religion.
Here’s another. A couple of years ago, they passed a law that made it illegal to dump any yard waste or food waste in landfills. All of that stuff has to be separated out and they provide only a tiny trash can, maybe 1/3 of the size of a normal one. The cities have to figure out what to do with it because they can’t dump it. We used to be able to burn it too, but now… it’s illegal.
I’ve talked to a couple of landscapers and they don’t want to haul it away anymore because they can’t get rid of it. I have heard, although haven’t confirmed, that there are people who are just hauling it over the border and dumping it in Nevada or Arizona where it’s legal. California isn’t accomplishing anything. They’re just virtue signalling.
We don’t have a ton of yard waste here most of the year, except in the early spring, when weeds explode everywhere following the run-off from the snow and the heavy rains. It gets cut down and then just sits there in massive piles while it gets shoved into the tiny cans for 6 months because there’s no other way to do it. The city used to go around and tell people to clean up their yards but they can’t do it anymore because there’s nowhere to put it! From where I am standing, in my back yard, there are 11 piles of weeds and grass that I can’t get rid of. After the trash gets picked up today, I’ll refill the tiny little bucket and it will just sit there again until next week. Maybe by August, it will all be gone. That’s how long it took last year. It’s really stupid.
California doesn’t give a damn about the consumer. They only care about their ideology. It’s why so many people are leaving California. They’ve managed to piss everyone off. Fuck California. Fuck the liberals.
