The Problem of the Burden of Proof

I see so many people getting this wrong that I thought I’d write a  quick post on it. Lots of people misunderstand what the burden of proof is and when they actually have to trot their proof out. It’s really not that hard, but I’ve seen lots of people giving bad information, or at least suggesting bad information.

So here’s how it works. Continue reading The Problem of the Burden of Proof

Maybe It’s Just Interpretation?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and frankly, I’m not at all convinced about some of the claims that we’re seeing. Recently, I heard that hate crimes were up year over year and they tried to blame Trump and the conservative right.

Yeah, maybe there’s another explanation that they don’t want to consider? Maybe, it’s all a load of complete bullshit. Continue reading Maybe It’s Just Interpretation?

Why Can’t the Religious Stop?

A couple of weeks ago, we went to a memorial service for my father-in-law. He’s been dead for a number of months, but his friends wanted to get together and have a ceremony for him and we sat there, up front.

Even though they acknowledged that my wife’s father was not, in any way, religious, the people running it insisted on shoving religion into it in every conceivable way.

How about no? Continue reading Why Can’t the Religious Stop?

Quick Response: That’s not How Reality Works

I find these things all the time online, things that are just stupid, but they don’t warrant an extended response, nor are they in the wheelhouse to make a video about. I want to say something but it’s hardly worth my  time to do so.

This is one of those things which will probably blow up into a full-length response, but there you go. Details below the fold. Continue reading Quick Response: That’s not How Reality Works

I Hate People

This morning, as we were getting ready to leave, this was running around in our front yard. It’s a pug mix, terribly dehydrated and starving. He was putting on the fake limping act to get attention and the second my wife opened the door, he ran right inside. It’s in the 30s outside right now and overnight it was down in the 20s.

At least he found people that are going to take care of him and nurse him back to health. Continue reading I Hate People

Prove Your Case!

I was going to write a post on this anyhow, but it came up on a recent video in the comments and I wanted to explain my position in a way that’s really not amenable to YouTube commentary debates.

There was a recent news story that “hate crimes” are on the rise and, of course, the left-leaning media is blaming it all on Trump. What else is new?

The problem is, they can’t actually back that up in any real way. So let’s have a chat. Continue reading Prove Your Case!

Another Example of Ideological Blindness

Now I’ll be honest up front that I am not a big fan of the Friendly Atheist, just like I’m not a big fan of most atheists who routinely mix liberal politics with their atheism and he’s among the worst. This isn’t really about him specifically though, he’s just a convenient segue.  However, he put out a video talking about Candace Cameron Bure and… yeah, we have to talk about it because it’s another clear case where the left entirely ignore all of the things that their side does wrong.

So here we go again. Continue reading Another Example of Ideological Blindness

Matt Dillahunty is Still Ignorant

I’m often critical of a lot of things that Matt Dillahunty says. Granted, I think he’s a skilled debater against a lot of religious topics and he deserves a fair bit of credit for that. Then, sadly, he leaves the reservation of reason when it comes to his social and philosophical views, which are not defensible, not evidence-based and not verifiable in any objective way.

Here comes another case of that. Continue reading Matt Dillahunty is Still Ignorant
