Trolls and True Believers

This happens all the time, but I’m going to talk about one specific instance because this is why it’s really hard to tell the difference between true believers and poes and trolls.

I’ve been making that observation forever. Let’s get to it.

There is one guy over on Reddit that kind of follows me around. Actually, that’s not fair, since he only does it in one or two subreddits, but whenever he sees that I’ve said something, he immediately disagrees, no matter what it is that I’ve said.

He did it again today, when someone came and asked a question, I answered the question and this idiot whined that I had answered the wrong question. When the original poster came by and said that he was wrong, I had answered the question he had asked and my answer had solved his problem, or at least let him understand what the problem was, the troll started arguing with the original poster because clearly, I couldn’t be right.

Some people are just assholes.

The problem is, I have no way of knowing if this is just a troll, being a jerk, or if it’s someone who truly believes the drivel that he’s saying. It is impossible for me to tell what’s really going on in his head and it doesn’t really matter.

This goes for the religious too. When you get theists making claims, you have no way to know if they’re serious about it, or if they are just trying to stir up trouble. There are some really convincing poes out there, people who get off on causing trouble and pretending to be something that they are not. I try to treat them all as if they are legitimate, since it really doesn’t matter if they are or not, and answer as I would to a true  believer. However, you never really know, do you? You can always get played and waste your time on a complete idiot. What can you really do though?

This is one of the reasons that I am getting sick of social media, because these people are everywhere. The Internet is full of people just being pricks and I’m tired of it. It’s impossible to have a legitimate conversation if the majority of the time, you’re just engaging an idiot who is doing it for kicks. I have very limited time to be online and it feels like all I’ve been doing is wasting it.

I am tired of wasting my time. Anyone else agree?

I agree but I marvel at how fast and how much quality you can crank out. I mean all of that content here but especially over on YouTube too and answering all the responses. Amazing.

I found “HOW I NEARLY DIED” a great read and lots of solid life lessons: modern medicine; entirely without any gods; expecting some magical man in the sky to help me out; we can’t be weak-willed or weak-minded; if you need an imaginary friend, you’ve got mental problems; stand on your own two feet; stop being terrified of reality; grow up; learn to deal with it, et. al.

Most people don’t grow up. Most people age. Growing up is losing the illusions💌

    1. I have a lot of pseudo-free time at work. Mostly, my job is keeping everyone else on task, so unless there’s a problem, which there usually isn’t, or I have to meet with clients, which happens a fair bit, I just sit around. So long as the upper management can keep the company making money, things are golden and at the moment, it’s just humming along.

I’m doing a really long series of posts, the first of which shows up on Friday, which is really all about dispelling the illusions, but as you said, most people don’t want anything to do with that. They just want the imaginary fantasy land in their heads and they want someone else to pick up the bills and make them continually happy. That’s just not how reality works and sooner or later, the piper comes to call. They always do. Then it’s screaming and crying because life isn’t fair or some nonsense like that.

It’s not. It never has been and it never will be. How could these people have gotten as old as they are without figuring that out?

      1. re: How could these people have gotten as old as they are without figuring that out?

Other people are picking up for them❓ When someone drops their responsibility it’s not our job to pick it up but parents, siblings, what have you (govt.), often do. Growing old is unavoidable, but never growing up is totally possible. I believe plenty remain in childhood.

“Faith” even with a personal responsibility overlay is just escapism. These people just love things to be taken out of their hands. Most people are probably not born stupid; we inherit stupidity by continuing to do that which is stupid.

        1. That’s why I don’t accept that escapism. It’s like when that door-to-door idiot came yesterday, one of the questions I asked is “what the hell is wrong with you?” He didn’t even try to answer that, he figured he has the right to do whatever he wants to do without consequence. These people are just idiots.

  2. re: “what the hell is wrong with you?” ✓💯%❗ . . . .ha, ha, ha, ha . . . oh, man that is sweet. Especially with the sign you have warning them. As a coward, I admire your courageous ways. I’d be afraid seriously losing it on them.

    1. See, I don’t care. I’ve gone off on enough of these idiots that it doesn’t matter anymore. I can be a grouchy old man if I want. Big deal. Mostly, I’m just asking them how they can be so dumb. They don’t have any good answers.

      1. . . .yeah, that is probably the key: not caring too much. When you lose your ego, you win. It really is probably that simple. Care less about what other people think. Care more about who you want to be and what you want to do.
