My Thoughts on Gay and Transgender Issues

I just finished up making a video where this came up, and therein, I said I wasn’t going to go into it because it was going too far afield. Therefore, I figured before that came out, sometime at the tail end of January, I figure, I’d post my thoughts here on the blog for all to see.

Let’s get to it.

I don’t expect this to make anyone happy and I don’t care. My blog, my thoughts, my rules. The problem comes when the political extremes both have philosophical isses with the subject matter, not realistic ones. They have things that they want to be true for irrational reasons and I reject that entirely. Ask yourself why you are getting upset. Is it because you can back up your ideas with demonstrable science, or if it just hurts your feelings? If the latter, grow up. It’s that simple.

The simple reality is that there really are gay people and trans people in the world. We can look at brain scans and see the biological differences. Nature isn’t perfect, sometimes it makes brains and bodies that are not matched. That upsets a lot of people on the right because they are convinced their imaginary friend doesn’t make mistakes. They are wrong.

If that was as far as it went, I’d be happy. I have no respect for the political, religious right anyhow. However, that’s where the far left gets into it and starts to cause problems.

For some reason, they encourage people to “be different” no matter what. In part, I think it’s because they hate straight white people. I was looking at the shows that the Atheist Community of Austin puts on and each and every one of the openly trans people on the shows, they all share one thing in common. They’re all white. Now I have no idea if that’s just a coincidence, since there are only three of them that I am aware of, but I have noticed that the vast majority of people on the political left who “come out” as gay or trans or one of the myriad of invented genders, virtually all of them are white. People are strongly encouraged not to be straight white men and women.  It’s not a law written in stone but there is a lot of social pressure and I’ve had this confirmed by people who left the left because they couldn’t take it anymore.

The reality is that the human mind is very malleable. If it wasn’t, then you would never see gay men “acting” straight. Gay conversion therapy would be impossible. People couldn’t choose to behave in a way contrary to their biological programming. If we focused on what was biologically defensible, since we now have the technological means to look at the brain and measure the actual differences in structure and function, I’d have no problem with that. Unfortunately, we live in a society where one’s feelings are far more important than the objectively defensible facts.

It’s not what you actually are, it’s what you “feel” that you are. Today, if you go to the doctor and say “I feel like I’m a man in a woman’s body”, they don’t throw you up on the MRI table to verify it, they set you up with gender reassignment surgery, based on your fee-fees. It is socially unacceptable to say “let’s see if your feelings match up with the biological reality” and if not, send you to a psychologist where you belong. “Feeling” that you are a different gender is no more rational than “feeling” you are a koala. You either are or you’re not and that has nothing to do with your feelings. It has to do with the biological facts.

Because the far left has spent so much time trying to convince perfectly normal people to “be different” in any way that they can, that’s only exacerbated the problem. Your feelings can lead to a diagnosis, either you’re right and your body doesn’t match the biology of your brain, or you’ve been talked into something factually incorrect and you need counseling to get back to normal. You don’t walk into a doctor’s office and say “I feel like I have cancer, get the radiation treatments ready!” These days, I wouldn’t be that surprised if that was coming though.

Some people might say “what’s the harm”? I agree, barely, when it comes to homosexuality. You can talk yourself into sleeping with men if you’re biologically attracted to women and vice versa and while there will certainly be some psychological fallout, it doesn’t actually cause any irreversible damage. However, when it comes to surgical procedures, that’s another matter entirely. When you realize that you were wrong, and there are tons of cases where people were convinced they were trans, they underwent gender reassignment surgery and then realized they were wrong, that can’t be undone. Yet today, the left are pushing surgery for people who have never been tested, for people who are confused and, horrifyingly, for children. This is political stupidity out of control. We should not be catering to people’s feelings, only to the demonstrable facts. If you have gender dysphoria, then by all means, alter your body to a way that is more comfortable for you, so long as it’s not done at taxpayer expense. Life isn’t fair. Get over it. If not, then you need psychological help and we can find you that, again, paid for out of pocket or through insurance because your own mental health is your responsibility, not society’s. This should have nothing to do with feelings. It should have everything to do with biological facts.

When do you think both extremes are going to sign off on that? I wouldn’t predict any time soon.
