Is It Free Speech?

Let’s do another political post. Not too long ago, Florida passed a law that restricted things like Drag Queen Story Time and recently, a judge ruled that it violated free speech and therefore it can’t be put into practice.

I have some questions about that though. Are they really concerned about free speech, or is this just an attempt at childhood indoctrination? Let’s talk about it.

I have absolutely nothing against people wanting to go to the library and read to kids. It’s a perfectly valid and respectable thing to do… if you’re doing it for the right reasons. Educating children is great.

Indoctrinating children is not.

It works for politics too.

I’m really questioning the reasons behind these Drag Queen Story Time sessions because it’s very clear that the reasons they are there is not to educate children by reading books to them.

It’s to indoctrinate people by normalizing a specific kind of behavior.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t care about drag queens at all. If that’s what floats your boat, knock yourself out. I’m not going to criticize  you for what you choose to do in the privacy of your own home.

This, however, is clearly not that. These are people who go out of their way to dress up in outlandish outfits, specifically to expose children to it. That tells me that this isn’t about education, it’s about indoctrination and indoctrination in all of its form is wrong.

We can take the same concept and change the variables. Would anyone complain if we had Nazi Story Time? Actual Nazis, showing up in SS uniforms, show up and read books to your kids. Would you be okay with that? “We’re just trying to normalize Nazism!” Doesn’t their free speech matter?

Or Pedophile Story Time? I know NAMBLA is hardly around anymore, but what would be “wrong” about having their members come by and read to your kindergartners? After all, don’t they have a right to free speech too?

I’m not saying that anything untoward actually happens in these meetings. There is no grooming going on, no inappropriate touching, etc. Nobody actually talks about Nazism or liking little boys, they’re just there as a public service to read to children!

Somehow, I don’t think that you’d get a lot of agreement from the far left on that, would you? Why not? Because this absolutely is indoctrination.

There is no reason why drag queens need to dress that way in public, especially when they are supposedly going to do a public service with impressionable youngsters. There is one and only one reason to do it and that’s to convince children that it’s a good thing to do.

That’s not “you can do it when you’re older if you want to”, but “you should do it right now because it’s fun!” That’s not a good thing.

Free speech, if this is  your justification, applies to everyone.  If you are going to allow one  group to read to children, you have to allow all groups to read to children and somehow, I don’t think we’re going to see that going on voluntarily from either side.

Wonder why?

  1. 🔴Parents: Consider teaching your children how to think✔ —NOT— what to think.❌🚫 For example: This is primary source evidence; this is secondary source evidence; this is hearsay; this is gossip and this is rumor. This is special pleading. This is a circular argument. This is an argument from authority. This is an argument from ignorance. This is a false equivalence. This argument assumes facts NOT in evidence. If you want Truth (—real, demonstrable, independently verifiable facts), it is important not to bypass the head and go straight to the “heart” —you must have demonstrable, independently verifiable evidence.✔ You will never find Truth (Real Facts) by letting your emotions hijack your intellect (-which is way easier to do than anyone will acknowledge).

    1. Except most people these days don’t know any of that because they, too, have gone through schools that have only taught them what to think and not how to think. There are a lot of people who are positively not qualified to raise children to be useful, educated, rational members of society.

Just look around out there. How do you think it got to be the mess that it is?

      1. True✔💯%❗ but maybe critical thinking should be taught in grade schools.

Even if it was just an introductory-level course make it designed to help define and identify critical thinking and reasoning skills and develop those skills. Even if the parents can’t do it, how could teaching an intellectual model for reasoning through issues to reach well-founded conclusions not help the mess we have❓

I think the kids would like it. I think they would go around deconstructing everything after they got on to it.

        1. Unfortunately, nobody wants that. The religious don’t want it because it’ll make religion a harder sell if kids know what questions to ask. The political left doesn’t want that because public schools are just an indoctrination zone for left-wing thought. Nobody wants smarter kids. They want kids to be gullible.

          1. Yeah. . . a) the religious don’t want it because it’ll make religion a harder sell ✔💯% b) political left doesn’t want that because public schools are just an indoctrination zone for left-wing thought. ✔💯%

Hard to see a path forward if no one wants anything but gullible kids. Kids constantly looking for direction from adults and approval from their peers which is a recipe for producing gullible adults who will not take the initiative to look deeper into issues and decide for themselves what needs to be done. They will hesitate to make life decisions because they have made very few in the past.

          2. Sadly, none of this is about truth. It’s all about power and influence. Like I keep saying, both sides are doing the exact same things for the exact same reasons. Why is that so hard for people to deal with?

  2. re: Why is that so hard for people to deal with?

I just don’t know. Truth is not a flower it is a sword, and it cuts things apart. I guess they simply do not want to have their “reality” deconstructed. Maybe, people would rather live in a community with unreasonable claims, than face loneliness with their truth. Truth heals, even when it hurts. All lies hurt, even when they purport to “heal.”

    1. I’d rather be self-sufficient. I know that’s a scary concept these days, but when failure becomes the norm, I’m not surprised.

      1. re: I’d rather be self-sufficient. 100%❗ Absolutely, and really, for all those who longed to find a best friend/ community, you really find that in yourself. But the religious feel self-sufficiency is the enemy of “salvation.” You know what they will say: if you are self-sufficient, you have no need of God. If you have no need of God, you do not seek Him. If you do not seek Him, you will not find Him. “Before we can be grafted into Him, we must be stripped of our self-sufficiency and ego.” -C. S. Lewis

The fear of abandonment forced me to comply as a child, but I’m not forced to comply anymore. The key people in my life did reject me for telling the truth, but I’m not alone. Even if the consequence for telling the truth is rejection from everyone I know, that’s not the same “death threat” that it was when I was a child. I am a self-sufficient adult and abandonment no longer means the end of my life.

        1. I’m really at the point of thinking that the reason nobody can have a coherent, intelligent conversation is because most of humanity is too stupid to live.

          1. re: because most of humanity is too stupid to live.
Ha, ha, ha, ha . . . Absolutely -Exactly.💯%✔ Agree, but I have to be careful because I’m pretty darn stupid myself.

          2. There’s a difference between being ignorant and being stupid. Ignorance is fixable, stupidity, sadly, is not. I don’t think you’re stupid at all.
