While I’m at it, let’s do another one. Someone posted a “news story” about an old guy yelling at a 9-year old girl at a track meet, something like that, and he “misgendered” her. The thing is that, because she had short hair, he assumed that she was pretending to be a boy.
I wish I could say this didn’t happen every day, but it does. I was in a “centrist” group on social media, mostly because I am sick and tired of both the left and the right, and we were talking about how both extremes on the political spectrum were following the same playbook, just for different audiences.
Someone popped up and said “you don’t know what you’re talking about!” Really? Then why are my posts getting absurdly up-voted and yours are getting endlessly down-voted? I think you’ve got that backwards. Continue reading The Epitome of the Dunning-Kruger Effect→
So let’s talk about the Disney live-action Little Mermaid movie. I don’t care about it, not remotely, even though the animated movie was one of my favorite Disney movies of all time.
So, I just got permanently banned from Reddit for the stupidest imaginable reason. I don’t really care, it just shows what a complete waste of time it is, but here’s the story anyhow.
I’m going to take an entirely irrelevant example that I came across on Reddit to show just what is wrong with humanity. I trust nobody is going to be surprised in the end. This is a completely throw-away example, but I think it illustrates the point.
This is a case that I just ran into, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. I just don’t want people to accuse me of being against religion per se or against politics per se. I am against stupidity, full stop.
So I came across this video today over on Nerdrotic where they were showing a video of Bill Maher making fun of the woke leftist mob, comparing them to Mao’s Cultural Revolution. It’s a worthwhile watch, the video is below the fold, but the one thing that I wanted to point out is that all of this sounds an awful lot like something else we’re familiar with around here.
I see so many people getting this wrong that I thought I’d write a quick post on it. Lots of people misunderstand what the burden of proof is and when they actually have to trot their proof out. It’s really not that hard, but I’ve seen lots of people giving bad information, or at least suggesting bad information.
Over on Reddit, someone posted a Christian who got upset that they came to an atheist subreddit, violated the rules, preached mindlessly and got banned. We see that all the time.
Unfortunately, we see the same thing happening in reverse, atheists who go to religious subreddits, make complete asses of themselves, get banned (and rightfully so) and then whine about it. I pointed that out and it’s a shame to see how idiotic a lot of atheists can be. Continue reading It’s Sad to Watch People be Dumb→
I do my level best not to pay any attention to politics these days. It’s all crap, no matter what side you’re on and I’ve got better things to do than bother with it. All political advertising goes straight into the trash without being looked at. I’ve started to tell people who call that I’m actively voting against anyone whose followers bother me. Most of the time, they just hang up.
That said though, sometimes it’s hard to avoid the terrible crap and that comes almost entirely from the left. I just wanted to look at two or three of them. Continue reading Absurd Political Ads→
