I’m fine tipping, but honestly, this is getting out of control. Mywife and I went into a frozen yogurt shop that we’ve been going to for years, but now, they have a new register and it insists that you give tips to the cashier who does nothing but sit on a stool all day and collect money.

What have you done to EARN a tip? Seriously!

I don’t mind providing tips to people who have done something additional, above and beyond the call of duty, to earn it, but seriously, sitting on your ass and doing no actual additional work doesn’t mean you deserve a tip. It just doesn’t. Half the time, these people are sitting in the back on their phones and only come out when someone walks into the shop, then they act bored the whole time you’re there. That same shop blasts loud music that the employees like, screw the customers, because they’ve got nothing to do most of the time.

Sorry, you don’t deserve a tip. You probably don’t deserve minimum wage for the work that I see you doing. If I was your employer, I’d fire you because you’re often rude to the customers and don’t even clean up very well.

So screw you and screw your tip. You’re not going to get one from me. I tip very well for the people who actually EARN it. You have done nothing. You can’t do nothing because you are not engaged in a service industry job. Sitting on your but and having customers swipe credit cards for a living is not a tip-worthy job. Get over yourselves.
