I’ve been having a lot of conversations lately on this, and today, Godless Engineer put up a video, where in the thumbnail, it says “This Caller is Obviously Morally Bankrupt!”
Yeah, that’s not how morality works. So once again, we’re going to delve into this and the absurd notions that far too many people have on morality.
There is no “RIGHT MORALITY!” It just doesn’t exist!
This is hardly the first time I’ve said this, but nobody wants to listen. Morality is what you, or your society, think is acceptable, nothing else. You don’t have to agree with your society, a lot of people don’t, but that doesn’t make your moral views any “better” than those of your morality.
Can you people please grow the hell up?
This is a problem that I’ve been talking about forever, how people seem to think that because they think a certain way, it’s just got to be true. This is true of the religious and non-religious alike. They just really want it to be true, that doesn’t make it true.
How many interactions have you seen or have you had where one side just screams at you “I’m just right, so there!” or words to that effect? A lot, right? So how do you know that? You don’t. You just like the idea. Liking the idea doesn’t make it true.
Human morality is messy because human morality is irrational. It’s just the stuff that makes you comfortable and different stuff makes different people comfortable, especially given that people come from all kinds of varied backgrounds. The morals for Muslims are going to be very different than the morals for Hindus or the morals for Christians or whatever, and even within specific groups, their moral views are going to be all over the place, depending on where they grew up and what they’ve been indoctrinated into.
There are no “right” moral systems. There just aren’t. There is only what works for the individual and society in question. The individual has to abide by what their society says because the society has legal power over them, but that doesn’t make it right. It just means it exists.
I didn’t watch the Godless Engineer video, I try to avoid these things as much as possible because they all wind up the same, but here it is if you want to take a look. I feel the same way about it when Matt Dillahunty goes on moral rants. Just because he really likes the sound of his particular moral views, that doesn’t mean that his are automatically better than anyone else’s. It just doesn’t.
This is why it’s impossible to have rational conversations with these people because it’s all faith and nothing more. It’s what they really want to be true. That doesn’t make it true. It’s what sounds good to them. That doesn’t make it so. Because they insist that there are no other options, they lack the capacity to step back and have an intelligent conversation with someone who disagrees. I’m not saying that GE is wrong, or that Matt is wrong, I’m just not saying they’re right because there is no right here. There is no wrong. There is only individual and societal opinions and people need to knock off this moral grandstanding and understand what is actually going on!
Yet they won’t, will they? It’s really kind of sad.

Yeah, people go absolutely nuts if it isn’t “objective” and then after all that, they proceed to violate what they preach as “objective” –vs– what their society thinks is acceptable. Because what society thinks is acceptable tends to bulldozer the rest of the thinking as morals morph with the times.
I like this WordPress platform. Never, ever had an issue with posting. I’ll tell you, YouTube is the worst and the way it deceives users by showing them that something they have written is “posted” only to go back in later and the post is just gone. Just outrageous. What a goon operation. Why not just tell the user right away: We are not posting your crap –vs– letting only the user see it like it really did post only to realize hours later it never posted and never knowing why. Garbage.
These people don’t have a brain in their heads. They can’t understand how reality works and because they don’t like the way reality works, they’re just going to make stupid stuff up anyhow because it’s all about fee-fees to begin with. Far too many people don’t like the real world and think they can just change it by fiat. That’s not how any of this works.
WordPress is decent. Mostly it works because I work behind the scenes to make it work. I whitelist people so that anything they write gets posted automatically, once I trust that they’re not trolls. There are just too many fingers in the pot on YouTube and they have no reason to care about anyone or anything. They’ve got an agenda, whereas I do not. I just like having interesting conversations. Thanks for providing that so often.

Too bad most people don’t care about reality. It just disgusts me. Actually, lots of things disgust me. Too bad it doesn’t make people any better. I’m just a glutton for punishment, I guess.

These people are stupid and sadly, they’re not alone. They would rather live in a fantasy land in their own heads than just deal with the world they actually live in. Sad, isn’t it?
