So I’ve been talking a fair bit about left-vs-right dynamics and, as people probably know, I am not really a fan of either, at least in the extremes. I don’t want the regressive left in charge, any more than I want the religious right. Both sides suck.
Here, though, is Douglas Murray explaining exactly what the far left is looking for, in it’s bizarre view of how society ought to be and why, it should never, ever be allowed. The video is below the fold. I’ll meet you there.
I will say, right off the bat, that I am and have always been a firm supporter of equity. I want equality of opportunity, never, ever equality of outcome. If you are a woman and every bit as qualified as a man, then you should have just as much right to get a job as the man does. The same goes for being gay vs. straight or being black vs. white. In fact, it’s really hard to imagine any situation where your gender, sexuality or skin color would have anything to do with just about any job under the sun. It’s entirely irrelevant. When I look at someone, I don’t see a black man or a lesbian woman, I see what they can do. It’s all I care about.
However, I think it’s pretty clear that the point of the far left’s tactics aren’t actually equity. They don’t care about putting black men to work or multi-racial women into jobs, this isn’t about creating an equal society, it’s about money and control.
Who didn’t see that one coming?
Because I think we all know that even if we did achieve their goals, as absurd and impossible as that might be, they’d just grab the goalposts and head for the hills because this isn’t about equity. It’s about making their side, a side that, if you notice, is almost entirely white and male, rich and powerful.
Funny how that works, right?
Now I’m not interested in having the religious in control either because, surprise, surprise, the same thing goes for them. They just want the God-botherers at the top of the food chain and I have no interest in that. I’ll probably always be, at least tangentially, on the side of the right, simply because I want nothing at all to do with the left, but I want to make it clear that both extremes can take a flying leap. I don’t want the overly-emotional left, nor the overly-emotional right anywhere remotely close to political, social or any other kind of power under the sun. I don’t trust any of them and I think I’ve got a damn good reason not to. Both sides have proven that their goals are unreasonable, their beliefs are untenable and their desires, at least their publicly-stated desires, they just aren’t honest. It’s not about <fill-in-the-blank>. It’s about power, pure and simple.
As author Robert Caro said, “Power doesn’t always corrupt. It reveals.” We have already seen what happens when these assholes get into power. We know how bad things get. I think it’s time we tried another way, with people who aren’t out there to tell us how to live or what to do, according to their blind, ridiculous faith. Let’s try some rationality for once.
Who is with me?
