So I came across this video today over on Nerdrotic where they were showing a video of Bill Maher making fun of the woke leftist mob, comparing them to Mao’s Cultural Revolution. It’s a worthwhile watch, the video is below the fold, but the one thing that I wanted to point out is that all of this sounds an awful lot like something else we’re familiar with around here.
It sounds just like religion.
First, of course, here’s the video. I’ll still be here when you get back.
This is something that I’ve been noticing more and more as time goes on, that the far left and the far right are running out of the same playbook. I don’t mean merely similar, I mean exactly the same playbook. You know what you get when you try to do the same thing and hope to get wildly different results?
Insanity.
Now this isn’t really that new, I’ve thought it, to some degree, since the days when Dave Cullen, a right-wing atheist YouTube content creator, suddenly decided to adopt Christianity because that’s what his audience expected. I have no idea if he actually believes it, but it’s clear he never came to his supposed “new” beliefs for rational reasons, he just wanted to fit in with the right wing religious mob. It’s not like I can read his mind, that’s just how it seemed to me.
It’s why I’m continually having to point out, when the far-right starts pointing out the absurdities of the left, they’re doing the exact same thing. “You’re expected to buy into the core beliefs of the woke mob!” Well isn’t that the same thing going on with religion? You’re expected to buy into the core beliefs of your church. If you don’t comply, you get excommunicated or otherwise socially shamed until you come crawling back to the fold. They’ve always had a way to “cancel” you by denying you social interaction with family or friends who are ordered to shun you until you recant.
It’s the same damn thing!
This has come up many times in the past too. The left, whining about the stupid January 6 thing, ignoring that their side has been out rioting and burning down cities. “Oh, but they’re trying to change the government by force!” What the hell do you think you’re doing? Or education. I can’t tell you how many times I see online atheists railing against religious education as “brainwashing” when the left has spent decades doing exactly the same thing to kids in public schools. It’s the same thing, it just gets results that they favor.
I’m really at the point where I think both sides can go fuck themselves.
