I know I shouldn’t be surprised but when this kind of thing comes up, the stupidity of the left never really surprises me.

Someone posted that some subreddit or another was posting something they didn’t like and, of course, that meant that it had to be stopped and wanted Reddit to delete the subreddit and ban everyone involved. No, nothing actually violated Reddit’s AUP, it just made leftists mad and therefore, mass cancellation was called for.Of course, that’s when I showed up and I tried to be the voice of reason. I said that free speech applies, even to people you don’t agree with. Yeah, that was a mistake and started a massive cluster-fuck of people screaming at me that free speech only applied to things they approved of.

These people are complete idiots.

That’s hardly a surprise, of course, as the left side of politics tends to be absurdly hypocritical. Nobody can tell them what they can and cannot say but they reserve the right to force everyone else to comply with their feelings! Rationality Rules did a video not long ago about “atheist cancel culture” and we got into it in the comments there too. These people just have no clue how to allow others to say things they don’t like.

I’m sorry but you people just aren’t in control. As I had to say to someone else this week, the only rational response to speech that you don’t like is more speech. You can’t shut people down because they don’t fall for rhetoric. Aren’t these the very same people who used to scream when the religious told them they weren’t allowed to speak their mind? Yet here they are, now doing the exact same thing, often to the same religious people who were restricting their right to free speech in the past.

Fuck these idiots.

You don’t have to like it. You don’t have to listen. You can’t stop others who want to listen from being able to hear it though. That’s the central problem with modern cancel culture. It’s an attempt to shut up the opposition. Yeah, screw you. Everyone has a right to speak their mind freely whether you like it or not. It isn’t something that you get to reserve only for yourself. I think this is another one of the “those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it” situations.

It’s why I keep pointing out that the left have absurdly short memories. They scream when the religious right insists Biden isn’t their president, yet they spent the last 4 years doing exactly the same thing to Trump. They finally get some political power and they run off and censor the censorers. All of a sudden, anything they don’t like gets disappeared because they never comprehended the problem when it was done to them. “You can’t control what we say but we can control what you say!”

No. No you can’t. I don’t care how deluded you are in thinking that you get to run the show but that’s not how reality works. These people need a serious lesson in repression because this is not the way they wanted to be treated when it was happening to them. It’s not how they get to treat anyone else either. It’s time for the political left to grow the fuck up. Otherwise, they’re just being the same kind of oppressive assholes that they used to complain about.
