I ran across this today, where someone had posted the above question and I had an immediate reaction to it. Not that queer women (or anyone else) shouldn’t read science fiction, but what the hell difference does it make?
This goes places that no good discussion ought to go. Let’s talk about it.
My question was… who cares? This isn’t relationship drama, it’s fiction, particularly in this case, science fiction and fantasy. Why does your gender or sexual preference matter at all? So I asked and got pretty much what I expected. Pure hypocrisy.
See, apparently this queer woman doesn’t like anything having to do with heterosexuality. It disgusts her. Well too fucking bad. Because here’s the thing, if someone posted the same post, only with “straight men” in the title, I’m sure she’d be shitting bricks. Good for me and not for thee.
This is hardly the first time I’ve run into this. You get groups of people that expect everyone else to pander to them, but they are personally offended if anyone asks that their personal pet group is excluded. We’re supposed to be accepting of any sexual orientation except heterosexuality. Being straight is now on the wrong side of the political divide.
Well fuck you.
Because this is one thing that I’ve noticed going on a lot on one side of the political spectrum. Their sexuality or their gender, those things are now the overriding factor in people’s lives. Yes, you can make the same observation among religious fanatics, where their religion colors absolutely everything else in their lives, but I suspect this is more a matter of fanaticism than intelligent discourse. Sadly, these are people who have nothing of substance in their lives beyond who they fuck, what color their skin is or what they’ve got between their legs. How pathetic is that?
If I read a book or see a movie and there are gay characters, or a gay relationship, I don’t get upset. It’s people doing what people do. I don’t care about black actors in prominent roles, excepting where Hollywood is specifically pandering only to specific demographics for woke brownie points, and frankly, I’d think that minority groups would get mighty tired of being used as a pawn for political capital. Maybe it’s just me, but from my perspective, I would never want any unearned adoration for anything that I didn’t personally earn. I have no interest in being a pawn. Anyone who thinks differently, I think are pretty dumb.
The world has become a mess these days, where some groups are celebrated because they’re not white men, while others are ignored because they don’t carry the imagined stigma of victimization. Whatever happened to equality? That’s a lost concept in modern-day liberalism. What happened to being color blind? That’s not what any progressive wants because then they, like a lot of religious people, wouldn’t be able to scream oppression left and right and that’s really what it’s about. Not about making the world a better place, but playing the endless victim. It’s not about accomplishing anything worthwhile, it’s about feeling better.
That is utter childish. People need to grow the hell up. I think it’s about damn time.
