Really short post since I just got off the phone, but I was trying to make an appointment with an optometrist to get my eyes checked. My doctor makes me do it every year or so, but the optometrist that I usually use, the one that is usually at the medical group I go to, he retired so I had to find another one.
Geez, it’s hard to deal with the rampant stupidity out there.
I don’t have to get a direct referral with my insurance so I can go to anyone on the website that’s taking new patients. It’s a one-off appointment so I figured this would be simple, right?
Not so much.
I get on my insurance company’s website and start to go down the list, sorted by who is closest to me. The first guy, his phone just hangs up immediately. Disconnected. Great. The second guy, I call this other medical group and they’ve never heard of him. That tells me how long it’s been since anyone tried to validate the list.
The third one though, they’re there. Fantastic. So I set myself up as a new customer so I can get an appointment and we go through the standard spiel filling out paperwork over the phone.
I get that she’s reading a script, but seriously, how can these people be this dumb?
One of the first questions that she asks is if I speak English. She is talking to me in English over the phone. Do I need a translator? Seriously, how can you be this dumb? Yes, I speak the language that you’re currently speaking to me in!
The next one is a pip. “Are you blind, deaf or are unable to speak?” Lady, you’re TALKING TO ME! Obviously I can speak. I might get the others, but speaking? YOU’RE SPEAKING TO ME! Earlier, she had verified that I was, in fact, the patient, so it’s not like I’m calling on someone else’s behalf.
What is wrong with these people? I understand that it’s a script, but use some common sense! “Can you do the thing that just being on the phone proves you can do?” Obviously I can!
We finally got to the end of the stupid questions and I got my appointment and I’m glad that the receptionist isn’t going to performing the procedure because she’s as dumb as a brick. This is just painfully absurd, but that’s the world we live in today. Stupid and ignorant. What else is new?
