Hassan al-Homoud, 46, and his wife Zainab al-Hosani, 39 plead guilty in a Texas court of law to holding two women, one from Indonesia and the other from Bangladesh, hostage in their home, keeping them as slaves. But they didn’t want to be held accountable for their crimes because, according to the couple, slavery is allowed by the Prophet Muhammad and therefore, any attempt to criticize it or to punish them for their crimes would be, by definition, Islamophobic.
So District Judge Orlando Garcia, not buying into the whole argument, decide that instead of putting this wealthy Islamic couple in prison, he’d just have them thrown entirely out of the country, never to return. But on the way out, he ordered them to pay their two former captives $60,000 each to compensate them, at least in part, for their suffering.
I don’t know if that’s nearly enough, considering that the couple forced their slaves to eat their leftovers, refused to allow them to use the bathroom, and when they were done for the day, they were forced to live in plastic boxes in the garage. This was all perfectly fine, according to al-Homoud, who strictly follows Sharia Law and thinks that if it was good enough for Muhammad, it’s good enough for him.
Now I don’t know that justice has been done, to just let these two religious animals go back to their home with the other religious animals after getting a slap on the wrist. I’d much rather have seen the judge sentence them to the same treatment that they visited on their slaves, but the judge is a much better person than they are, clearly, and decent human beings don’t do that to other human beings.
But these are religious zealots and clearly, not decent human beings. They don’t understand what they’ve done wrong and don’t care. Is it any wonder that Islam ends up on Horror Show Sunday with such regularity?
