Horror Show Tuesday: Catholic Failures

This is the kind of thing that really pisses me off.  After a Pastoral associate at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Indianapolis, Indiana was arrested and charged with molesting two boys, it takes the victims to scream at the Catholic Church to get them to actually help police with the prosecution.

Oscar Vasquez-Guzman, 38, was arrested and charged with two counts of child molesting, seven counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and one count of attempted sexual misconduct with a minor.  These crimes took place between 2013-2015. Neighbors say there were always boys playing in his yard so they never saw anything wrong.  That’s really scary when you consider the possible ramifications of it.

According to one boy, he was abused on multiple occasions over the course of a year, starting when he was 14.  The other boy says the molestation happened only once, when Guzman invited him over to watch a movie and fondled him.

But victims say that what the church is doing is not enough.  While the local archbishop says he’s cooperating with police, they say that he has lots of power to do more.  In fact it  took a lot of pushing to get him to issue letters to the members of local churches, sent in both English and Spanish, as well as posting it to their website, informing everyone of what happened and what to do if they have either been the victims of religious sexual abuse, or have any knowledge of religious sexual abuse to report to authorities.  You’d think this would be standard operating procedure, considering how many cases the Catholics have to deal with.  Shouldn’t they have learned their lesson by now?

Regardless, this is just another example of the failure of the Catholic Church to keep their parishioners safe. They don’t care, so long as they keep getting money.  That’s why this earns a spot on Horror Show Tuesday.
