Let’s see if we can’t spread the religious horrors around, shall we? This week we look at a crazed fundamentalist Jew who dove into a crowd at a Jerusalem gay pride parade with a knife, stabbing six. Of course, this is the same guy who, in 2005, did the same thing at the same parade and stabbed 3. Some people never learn.
Ultra-orthodox Jew Yishai Schlissel has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following the attack, but he had just gotten out of prison three weeks prior for the exact same crime. Something tells me that Jewish prisons are not doing the best job rehabilitating the religiously delusional. This is what happens when you live in a country filled with them.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack as “a most serious incident. In the state of Israel the individual’s freedom of choice is one of basic values. We must ensure that in Israel, every man and woman lives in security in any way they choose. That’s how we acted in the past and how we’ll continue to act. I wish the wounded a speedy recovery.” Yet Israel continues to treat ultra-Orthodox Jews as something special, paying them out of tax money so they don’t actually have to work, they can just spend all of their time praying. Seems like a ridiculous example of special treatment to me. Still, since Israel repealed a ban on consensual homosexual activities in 2008, despite massive protests from the religious fanatics, I guess we can be thankful for small favors.
So this religious freak goes back to prison, where he will probably still not learn a thing and will do this again in another dozen years when he gets out. The religious never learn, do they? That’s why they spend so much time being criticized on Horror Show Sunday.
