Following the recent Supreme Court decision on marriage equality, the whining Christians are out in force, crying that they’re being discriminated against because they’re not being allowed to discriminate against people they don’t like and that’s a travesty! Cry me a fucking river. I’ll serenade you with the world’s smallest violin. Fucking crybabies. But it’s reignited another round of “oh, poor us, we’re being downtrodden!”
This really came home to roost when I was reminded that, over on Debate Politics, a forum I’ve been on for almost 9 years, there used to be a general purpose Philosophy forum for discussing religion and anything related. That is until the religious started whining that they were being abused, that people were daring to make them feel bad, questioning what they believed and asking them to actually prove any of their assertions. So, to placate the whiners, they made a special religion forum where it is utterly verboten to question religion, to be at all negative toward religion, etc. It’s a special little echo chamber for special little religious flowers whose precious little feelings are hurt easily and they’re all proud of it. They act like it’s the best thing ever, that religion is now entirely safe from “discrimination”. These people don’t know what that word means.
It’s impossible to justify that discrimination is taking place, especially on a large scale, when Christians still make up a majority of the population, even if that number is slowly shrinking. The vast majority of legislators are Christian, it is virtually impossible to get elected to high government office as an open atheist so if anyone in the government is discriminating against Christians, it has to be other Christians and that, by definition, isn’t discrimination. That’s like saying the KKK is discriminating against whites. It’s absurd.
That doesn’t stop Christians from just changing the definition of discrimination to “anything that we don’t like”. To listen to a lot of whiny Christians, what they really don’t like is the fact that they’re losing their unearned and undeserved extra privileges, rights and power over society. They used to be able to use social pressure to get what they wanted. Now they can’t. They used to be able to make pronouncements about hell and people would knuckle under. Now it doesn’t work. That’s all discrimination! Well, not so much. The definition if discrimination is “the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.” You know, exactly what they’ve been trying to do to homosexuals. Of course, the religious have no problem with discriminating against others, in fact, they think it’s their right to do so. They just don’t want anyone discriminating against them. There’s a word for that. Hypocrite.
There is nothing discriminatory in recognizing that a group of people have had unjustified power and influence for far too long and making them the same as everyone else. Religion has overstayed its welcome. We have a constitutionally-guaranteed secular government. Christians don’t get special rights. Let’s just call bullshit on the whole thing and tell them to stop whining, we can see through their self-serving nonsense.
