Sometimes, you really have to wonder if these religious asshats even have the slightest clue what they’re supposed to believe, as in this case from Kentucky where a well-known youth pastor, Rex Allen Murphy, raped a 16-year old boy and told him that if he ever told authorities, he’d get him with his warlock powers. The “funny” thing is that Murphy specialized in “curing gays” of their homosexual feelings, but it comes as no surprise that he had his own homosexual feelings that he kept tightly locked up.
The chief of police, Colin Hatfield, said, “The victim stated that the suspect told him on numerous occasions that by brushing his skin or shaking his hand…he could tell his sins by the power he has. He comes from family of warlocks.” The unnamed boy said he was afraid because he felt he was being threatened by the power of Wicca. Yet Murphy was a youth pastor for the Polly Ann Church of God, not someone you’d suspect would hold Wiccan beliefs. Murphy, who met his victim through Sunday School at the church, denies that he intended the statements about witchcraft to be taken as a threat. Sure. I buy that.
Police suspect there may be other victims, as seems common in stories like this. Yet I have to wonder exactly why anyone would fall for stories of witchcraft. Okay, yes, they already fall for stories of invisible gods in the sky, miracles and eternal damnation, witchcraft probably isn’t too much more difficult to comprehend. Gullibility in one thing quite often leads to gullibility in many others, we know that people who fall for religious ideas are often just as irrational in other ridiculous ideas as well.
So there you have it, another Christian in authority with his hands down some kid’s pants. Is there anyone out there who is surprised? Or do we just chalk yet another one up on Horror Show Sunday?
