Horror Show Saturday: Ignorance is No Excuse

Daniel “Gug” Hayman at his sentencing in 2011.

This could only come from the minuscule minds of the religious.  In Australia, Rabbi Yosef Feldman told the Royal Commission on Child Sexual Abuse that “reformed” pedophiles deserve leniency, they should not be made to feel like the scum of the earth. Feldman was friends with convicted Jewish pedophile Daniel Hayman when he was sentenced in 2011, but held that the courts had no business condemning religious sex criminals if they have already repented and received treatment.  “I would be asking for more leniency on people who have shown that they haven’t offended in the last 20 years or decades ago, and have psychological analyses that this is the case,” Rabbi Feldman said. “Once someone is not a paedophile any more or is showing [he] is not acting wrongly any more, that should be considered in a very strong way.  Once someone is not a paedophile any more or is showing [he] is not acting wrongly any more, that should be considered in a very strong way.  The more lenient approach would show “when you do the right thing, you won’t get mistreated badly and it’s not the end of the world … then you are not treated like a pariah, like a scum of the Earth”.

Yosef Feldman
No clue that molesting children is wrong.

Um, sorry but it doesn’t work that way.  This just shows how clueless Feldman is.  He claims that talking about religious sex abuse “encourages even people who may not be real victims or may want to be considered heroes” to go to the police.  Of course, this comes on the heels of another appearance before the Commission where Feldman said he had no idea that it was illegal to touch a child’s genitals.  Yeah, he’s looking much better now, isn’t he?  Speaking out in another case against a rabbinical student known as AVL, who was accused of sex crimes while at the Yeshivah Gedolah in Sydney in 2002, Feldman said he “didn’t have a clue” that molesting a child was a bad thing.  Yeah, I don’t think he has a clue about a lot of things.  You want to know why?  Feldman himself supplies the answer:  “My role in general is to look at things from a Jewish perspective, from a religious perspective, I’m not in the business of thinking about how society would deal with issues.”  In other words, this guy isn’t human.

Now to his “credit”, he’s hardly the only theist who has ever claimed that just saying you’re sorry ought to be enough to get a religious pedophile out of paying for their crimes, the Catholics do it, Christians of all stripes do it and Islam is infamous for it, heck, they don’t even care if anyone is sorry, rapists get away with it because… reasons!  You just have to look through Horror Show Sunday to find theist after theist demanding special treatment for other theists because they think they’re special.  Well, they are.  Short-bus special, but that’s nothing to be proud of.  So I finish up my week of religious tragedy with an example of what’s wrong with religion overall.  It’s only natural that it should fall on Horror Show Saturday, the Jewish holy day.
