Horror Show Sunday: Send ’em to Meet Jesus

Pamela J. ChristiansenYou know, I always find this funny, although it really isn’t, but I have an SEO program that I use for the Bitchspot Blog. I’ve started tagging all of the Horror Show Sunday stories the same so that people can search for them and come up with every single one I’ve done. The SEO program doesn’t like that, it wants unique tags and it complains each and every week that I’ve used the same tag more than 125 times.  Yes, it’s really, really sad that I’ve had to tag more than 125 stories as religious horrors and they keep on coming.

But here we go again, another one for the SEO program to complain about.

In Montgomery, Illinois, a pastor’s wife flipped out and tried to murder her three daughters after her estranged husband told her that the end of the world was imminent.   The mother claimed she wanted her daughters to “meet Jesus Christ.”  Lady, you need to meet a psychiatrist.

When police arrived, Pamela J. Christiansen, 47, was covered in blood.  Two of her daughters had been stabbed, but made a full recovery following medical treatment.  Christiansen had also stabbed herself in the chest.  The three girls, aged 12, 16 and 19, had been dressed in white by their mother as she held a knife to their throats and asked if they had accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  Earlier, she had tried to poison the girls so she could stab them in their sleep but they refused to take the poison.

Her estranged husband, Vaughn Christiansen, a former minister, had called her and said that the world was ending and she was to get the family ready to meet Jesus.  Pamela had filed a restraining order against her husband, citing violence against the girls and a stated desire to commit suicide.  So I guess violence by the father is a bad thing, but violence against the kids so they can meet the Father is fine?

Anyhow, she’s being put away, charged with three counts each of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated unlawful restraint.  Her bail is $1 million dollars and hopefully she gets some serious psychological help while she’s in prison.  It’s too bad that the father isn’t ending up right next to her, he’s as much of a danger to the kids, and likely to the rest of society, as she is.

The religious.  Can’t live with ’em, can’t kill ’em, but you can put them away.

  1. "Can’t live with ‘em, can’t kill ‘em, " this made me chuckle.

Not sure what to make of this, I mean how can you stab your daughters. Unless the daughters were not obeying their mothers command when she told them to jump up and down on the knife in which case she had full Biblical support.

    1. This is where stupid religious beliefs really are harmful. If she didn't believe the world was coming to an end, if her ex-husband didn't tell her that everyone was going to die, if she didn't believe in an afterlife, there's no way that any rational person would ever act as she did. Of course, she wasn't rational and her religious beliefs gave her insanity a path to follow to potential disaster. If she was just crazy, she'd have gotten the help she needed. The fact that her craziness was religious means she got a pass from the rest of society.
