Horror Show Sunday: Blaming the Rape Victim

woman lashed for being raped saudi arabia sharia law
How dare she allow herself to get raped? This is prime for Horror Show Sunday.

A 19-year old woman in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is facing 200 lashes of the whip and 6 months in prison.  What is her crime?  She “allowed” herself to be raped by 7 men.  Initially, her sentence was to be 90 lashes for daring to violate Islam’s strict code of conduct between the sexes, but after her lawyer argued in court against the cruel punishment, it was more than doubled.  She’s also being punitively punished for daring to speak to the press about the horrible situation.

The men involved in the rape are being held to less than half of her sentence.  I guess we’re lucky they’re being punished at all, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were simply released with a pat on the back by the absurdly sexist Sharia court.  This has sparked international outrage.  Canadian Minister of Human Rights, Jose Verger, calls the sentence “barbaric” and vowed to complain strenuously to Saudi Arabia regarding it’s legal system.  Human Rights watch says that the sentence “not only sends victims of sexual violence the message that they should not press charges, but in effect offers protection and impunity to the perpetrators.”  U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said, “I think when you look at the crime and the fact that now the victim is punished, I think that causes a fair degree of surprise and astonishment. It is within the power of the Saudi government to take a look at the verdict and change it.”

The woman’s lawyer, Abdul Rahman al-Lahem, reached out to the media. The court has since banned him from further defending the woman, confiscating his license and summoning him to a disciplinary hearing later this month.  So not only does the court have no interest in hearing from her lawyer, now they’re disciplining him for daring to defend a woman.  I guess he’s lucky he’s not female or he’d be getting whipped right next to his former client.

Of course, this is hardly the first time something like this happened, it’s very common for women who are raped, beaten or otherwise molested to be treated to a much more harsh sentence than the men that were guilty of the crime.  It’s absurd how many Muslims claim to be following the Religion of Peace when their faith proves them to be nothing more than animals.  Fuck Islam.  I hope you all rot in the Religious Horror Show.

  1. Inhumane and inhuman. They've made this woman into a scapegoat instead of treating her like a crime victim who deserves justice. There's some deep-seated misogyny at work here, on all levels.

    1. I think that's one thing that people don't understand, although to be honest, you're probably not getting a lot of honesty in that crowd because most of them are putting up their hands out of peer pressure, not necessarily because they buy into it. There are people in that audience who are not putting up their hands, or who are only putting them up a little and looking around because they feel uncomfortable so it's clear that these people are not necessarily doing it because they believe it, but because they feel they're supposed to.

Those idiots up on stage are the real animals and need to be dealt with.

  2. What you don't understand is that the state of Saudi Arabia is not following the correct rules of the Shari'ah Law and if they were too, this innocent girl would not be treated that way. Next time I suggest you criticise the people carrying out the 'legal system' not the actual religion you incompotent fool. If you are going to write an article have the facts about Islam, becaue the religion may not be completely 'peaceful', none of the monotheistic religions are! However it does treat women fairly and that's what you should look up and find to argue back to the corrupt Saudi Arabian courts about.

    1. And, just like every other religious group out there, I'm sure they would say that everyone else is interpreting the religious rules wrong too. That's the thing about religion, everyone reads the rules conveniently, they apply what they want and ignore what they don't and everyone around them points fingers and says they're doing it wrong. Well I'll tell you what they're doing wrong, using religion in the first place. If they were a secular state that entirely ignored Islam and it's absurd rules, no innocent people would be treated the barbaric way they often are under Islam.
