I’ve become convinced that’s what this planet needs.  Nothing else will really do, we’ve gone too far and nothing short of a complete meltdown planet-wide is going to bring us back from the brink.  The world financial markets need a near complete and utter collapse to knock some sense back into the human species.

The problem, especially in the U.S., is that we’ve become liberalized to the point of insanity.  The majority of people take some form of government handouts and those in the government know that providing those handouts is essential to re-election, therefore they will continue to hand out as many freebies as humanly possible, regardless of what it does to the economy.  It’s the ultimate carrot-and-stick cluster-fuck.  The voters chase the entitlements for votes.  The politicians chase the votes for entitlements.  Neither side is willing to back down because neither side is willing to give up what they’re getting out of the deal.

So why does this have to be a world-wide meltdown?  Because we need to take China out of the picture.  So long as China has money to lend us, so long as their checkbook is open, we will never change.  Change needs to be forced on the American political system and on American culture.  It needs to be immediate and unchangeable.  The free money needs to go away and people need to live within their means, effective immediately.

Obama’s proposed 2013 budget is absurd, it’s 107% of the total gross domestic product of the nation.  That means that the government proposes to spend more money than every man, woman and child makes in the entire year of 2013.  Keep in mind that’s not tax money, that’s every red cent that is made anywhere in the country.  Just to keep the numbers simple, if we assume an average tax rate of 40%, that means Obama has to still find 67% of the money he’s receiving from other sources.  Where is that going to be?  Borrowing from China, of course!  This has to stop.

Certainly, it will be a hard transition and I think it has to be.  The harder, the better.  It needs to be catastrophic.  It needs to hurt people.  Sorry, but that’s the way it is.  People need to wake up one morning and realize the money taps are now permanently turned off and they have to fend for themselves.  There could be a revolution and if so, it’s well deserved.

The word for all of this needs to be “responsibility”.  Everyone needs some.  Everyone.  The people, the government, everyone.  We need to live within our means and under the absurd liberalization of America, we’ve forgotten how to do that.  That means if you can’t afford to buy a new car this year, you don’t do it.  You don’t buy the latest, greatest cell phone if you can’t afford it.  You spend the money you have in your bank account and no more.  With the exception of certain large, rare purchases, like houses and cars, you don’t buy more than you have.

One of the biggest problem both for people and for governments, has been the free and easy access to credit.  That needs to stop.  Credit has traditionally been only for those people who could afford it, for those who proved themselves reliable enough to trust with it.  That is not every Tom, Dick and Harry out there.  Far too many people simply ignore their credit scores, they don’t care if they pay things back, but if you try to cut off their credit, they bitch and whine.  The government has pushed companies like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to bestow credit on anyone and everyone no matter how unworthy they are of it.  It’s more vote-buying nonsense.  It’s what  got us into this financial mess to begin with.

So I’m all for a meltdown.  Stop people from buying what they can’t afford, stop the government from funding what it can’t afford.  Let the chips fall where they may.  We’ll come back stronger and more secure than we were, the way things used to be.  It’ll be a hard road for a while, but eventually, the dominoes have to come tumbling down and I’d rather it happen now, while we’re not talking armageddon back to the stone age.  We have a bit of wiggle room now, where everyone won’t be out in the streets.  Some people will be, certainly, and to be honest, I don’t feel a lot of sympathy for them because they did it to themselves, but it’s better to be some people than most people.  We need to become responsible again.  We need to become accountable again.  We need to be a producing nation again and we can only do that by stepping up and dealing with reality.

Otherwise we’re doomed.  We’ll become another Greece.  That’s not what I want to see happen to this country.
