Another Loving Christian Pastor

Holy PornLarry Robert Collins has been sentenced to 15 months in jail, followed by 3 years probation for possessing child pornography and encouraging child rape.  An additional charge of distributing child pornography was dropped.  The problem, as I’m sure anyone could have guessed, is that Collins is a pastor in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.  Until last year, he was the pastor of the Church of Nazarene in Guildford.

However, it goes much farther than that.  Pastor Collins used pictures and video from a girl’s Facebook page to create an explicit video encouraging people to sexually assault her.  “It’s just so wrong on so many levels,” Constable Rosiane Racine said.  “The video included sexually explicit scenes. As the video plays there is writing — words of encouragement to rape a child.”  Apparently, Collins created several online accounts pretending to be  the victim posting links to the video.  In the video, the name and hometown of the victim were clearly shown, placing the girl in potential harm.

Authorities acknowledge that Collins and his victim, whose name is being withheld, were aquainted but it is unknown if she was a member of his congregation.  The church, to it’s credit, terminated Collins as soon as the charges became public.  “When it surfaced he was denied any further access to the property or the congregation. Period,” Rev. Douglas Wood, the transitional pastor said.  “Hopefully the sentencing will bring a degree of closure and won’t have a long-lasting impact. It’s a strong, vibrant congregation.”

I wish I could say I’m surprised in all of this but I’m not.  A lot of the details remain unclear and because of that, I’m not going to throw this into the Religious Horror Show, we just don’t know if Collins’ motivations were religious or not.  However, it’s yet another case in a long, long, long line of cases where the religious, who routinely tout their superior morality, show themselves to be real sleazebags.  Religious morality… right.  Tell me another one.

Just don’t do it in a video.

surprise, surprise. People act so shocked, but similar situations happen ALL the time.
