God Made Me Fat and Lazy!
Some people are all too ready to blame God for anything and everything in their lives, this is an extreme example of someone who took personal laziness and turned it into a means of preaching religious stupidity.
Tillmon Webb of Columbia, S.C. weighed 550 pounds when paramedics took him home following knee surgery last March. They told him that if they put him down into his recliner, he might never be able to get up again. That’s precisely what happened though, when they came to take him to the hospital again in November, he was permanently stuck to the chair from which he hadn’t moved in 8 months. He had to be cut free and he ultimately died at the hospital of a heart attack. Police, who reported his weight now around 800 pounds, had to cut a wall through the wall of the couple’s mobile home to get him out.
Tillmon’s wife, Ada, said he was embarassed to call for medical help because he was ashamed of his condition and lacked health coverage, but that didn’t stop him from preaching to anyone who would listen! Tillmon, a former preacher, would post sermons online from his filth-covered chair and tell people how wonderful it was that he would “soon be going home”. Why filth-covered? Because he was unable to get up, he would defecate in the chair and his wife would clean up after him daily.
“I did all I could for him. He loved me with a passion,” his wife said. “The only reason he held on to life here was for his family because he wanted to go home and be with the Lord.”
You did? So… when did you call for help? When did you seek out medical attention to come to your home? Sorry, I’m just not seeing it. Embarassment or not, health insurance or not, you allowed your husband to balloon into a shit-stained tub of lard in a recliner for 8 months and didn’t do anything to stop it. That’s not “all that you can”, that’s nothing.
Sorry, this is just another example of religious stupidity. I’m sure good old ex-reverend Webb was telling people it was God’s will he was a bag of lard, but the fact is, if he had wanted to, there was plenty of help available to him to get off his fat ass and get healthier. Whatever happened to that much-vaunted religious community everyone talks about? Nobody there to come over and pry the chair off his ass? Nobody who had a pickup truck to drag him to the hospital? Nobody who cared enough to call authorities? This just doesn’t impress me at all, this is a person who ignored his own personal responsibilities and got what he had coming to him because he couldn’t imagine God would let it happen to him.
Religious stupidity, through and through.
