They were talking on the most recent Chariots of Iron podcast about the various kinds of atheists and how they fit into the 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 models. They talked about people who didn’t want to fight religion and just wanted to be social, those who wanted to take up the fight against rampant religion and be social, etc.
How about me? I only want to oppose irrationality, perhaps fight against religion on occasion, I don’t really have any interest whatsoever in being part of an “atheist community”. That doesn’t mean I’m not social, I just don’t base my socialization on what I don’t believe, as I’ve written before. I guess that doesn’t put me into any of the “various kinds of atheists” because the only ones anyone wants to talk about are the ones who are trying to make a social club out of the whole thing. The problem is, I really don’t care if I make friends doing what I’m doing. Sure, I have no problem with it if it happens, but anyone I make friends with is going to be a friend because we have things in common, not because we happen to oppose the same thing. That has never made a bit of sens to me.
So, maybe I’m just an atheist, sans version numbers. I’m entirely happy with that.

Atheist 1.0, 2.0 & 3.0? Talk about wasting time navel-gazing. Ugh!
