In light of the recent announcement by the Catholic Church that they might stop feeding the homeless in Washington D.C. unless they get their way on gay marriage, I think it’s clear that the RCC isn’t out to win any humanitarian awards, they’re trying to take their ball and go home if everyone won’t play by their rules. In short, the question of whether the Catholic Church is a force for good or evil in the world has gotten one more bit of evidence that they’re evil.
This was also the topic of discussion in a recent debate between Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry on one side and Archbishop John Onaiyekan and Anne Widdecombe on the other. The question was: Is Catholicism a force for good in the world? News flash for you, the Catholics got their asses handed to them.
It’s split up into 5 parts and I think you’ll agree that the Catholic side got soundly trounced. Just look at the post-debate numbers, they lost all credibility among the audience. Of course, I don’t think the Catholics care, they ignore the issues and keep going back to “this is what we believe, screw off”.
Enjoy!

Thanks for posting the videos. I haven't got time to watch now (heading off for family obligations soon), but I know where to come when I'm ready to watch, probably tomorrow night.
As for the main part of your post, as religion (particularly Christianity) loses its privileged place and presumed dominance of American society, activist Christians are baring their fangs and revealing their claws more openly and more frequently. The fight will get much bloodier before it's over.
