Glad to Know I’m Not Fully Human
This isn’t exactly new news but I wanted to touch on it because I’ve seen it again recently and it is still something important that people know about. The following is a radio discussion between Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, Archbishop of Westminster and Roger Bolton of the BBC.
Essentially, what the good Cardinal is saying is that anyone who doesn’t fall for his ridiculous imaginary friend fantasy can’t possibly be fully human. Apparently, according to Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor, an essential part of being human is being an irrational, superstitious git. If that’s the case, then sign me up for not being human!
It reminds me of that good old quote by former President George Bush in a discussion with reporter Robert I. Sherman on August 27,1987:
Sherman: What will you do to win the votes of the Americans who are Atheists?
Bush: I guess I’m pretty weak in the Atheist community. Faith in god is important to me.
Sherman: Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are Atheists?
Bush: No, I don’t know that Atheists should be considered as citizens,
nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.
Sherman (somewhat taken aback): Do you support as a sound constitutional principle
the separation of state and church?
Bush: Yes, I support the separation of church and state. I’m just not very high on Atheists.
Too bad his son went on to be one of the worst, most religious Presidents in the history of the United States, huh? Just like our buddy Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor is working for one of the worst Popes in recent memory. Funny how it works like that.
