I was bored so I’ve been poking around for blogging forums, looking for people to talk to about the actual act of blogging and to be honest, I’m not at all impressed. It’s not the forums that are the problem IMO, it’s the bloggers themselves. The vast majority of people who are setting up blogs aren’t in it to produce quality content, they just want Google Adsense revenue. People don’t care what they post so long as visitors keep on clicking. In fact, some of them are even paying for generic articles so they don’t have to be bothered with actually writing anything. Many of them have 3-4 or more blogs, each with “hot topics” so they can get higher Google page rank.
What ever happened to having something to say and using a blog as a place to say it? I go entirely the other way. I have no ads on my blog. Absolutely zero. I don’t make a penny out of it and never will. Even on those rare occasions that I might link to Amazon, I certainly don’t get anything out of it. I write what I want to write because I want to write it. I don’t write so my article will show up high on Google’s list and get more clicks. In fact, I consider that to be entirely idiotic.
Sorry, I just don’t respect people who are out trying to scam people into clicking on links. Money-grubbing slimeballs don’t impress me. Either write something quality, something that comes from the heart and is important to you or go get a goddamn job. Find quality people who are actually interested in what you write and come back, not to click on links, but to see what you’ve got to say.
Otherwise, just take a hike. Blogging simply isn’t for you.
Oh, and I know some people are going to get incensed at this and whine about how horrible it is that I’m getting on their case for cheap and cheesy posting, buying links, buying posts, etc. Don’t bother, I’m sure Bernie Madoff could justify his actions too. I’m just not impressed.
