Wow, this was difficult to do. I’ve already apologized for not posting this on Saturday night, just due to the fact that we didn’t even get home until Sunday morning, but I had fully intended to post it as soon as I woke up, then I got to thinking that I ought to start it off with a picture of all the things we ended up getting at SDCC and I got entirely distracted updating our online toy database. I’ve decided to revamp how we do things and since we got so many Dr. Who figures at Comicon, that seemed like a good place to start and… well, I spent my afternoon doing that. Add to that the fact that we had to build all of the gashapon and some of them just wouldn’t cooperate, it took a while to get the shot. Finally, here you go, our SDCC haul.

Getting back to what we’re supposed to be talking about, we’ll be looking at even more manufacturers and seeing what they have to offer.
Hasbro: While I already said how impressed I was with Toynami’s booth, I think my favorite still has to be Hasbro, simply because
they are putting out the most toy lines that I actually care about and that are going to end up in stores near me. There were a number of different lines of Iron Man coming up soon, one of which I didn’t even know about, Iron Man: Armored Adventures, which comes from the latest Iron Man animated series. The figures look great, very show-realistic and while I can’t say anything about the poseability since they were behind glass, they certainly did look like they’d be pretty standard for the 3.5″ scale. I’ll be on the lookout for them once they finally hit stores.
Of course, the regular film-version Iron Man figures looked pretty nice as well. There haven’t been any new figures for a bit now and the ones in the past wave or two have been largely repaints, nothing too extraordinary and I’ve been hoping to see something new. I’ve got mixed feelings about what I saw. Granted, it’s being made specifically for the new Iron Man movie and therefore they are sort of limited by what the movie actually has in it, but I still want to see a much wider range of figures than just “Iron Man Mk. 3.12159″. There’s so much potential in the line, I don’t want to see it fall apart by being nothing but repaints and no innovation.
Gentle Giant: Here we have another company that does statues exclusively, but they do such gorgeous stuff I had to take a bunch of pictures. However, I don’t know if they have a different kind of glass in their display cases than everyone else or what because every single picture, taken with the same camera and the same settings, reflected every light around and they all came out very blurry. Here’s the best that I could pull out of the pile.
NECA: I love their Cult Classics line and they had some new stuff on display, plus a pile of con exclusives. I really appreciate the fact that they keep putting out Terminator 2 figures since that was the best of all the films. Ignoring T3 and Salvation seems pretty prudent, although I know that other companies have done those toys, I still like seeing new and interesting stuff coming out of NECA.
The last thing they had out was a complete set of their new Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince figures, which is something my wife collects. They look very well done, I think that’s something we’re going to have to look out for as soon as they hit the street.

I’ll leave you with something out of the “This is just wrong” department, Sideshow had a pile of display cases out, some of them filled with stuff that’s just disturbing. One case was filled with what I’m terming “stuff you can do to a Stormtrooper” and trust me, they did a lot of stuff to Stormtroopers. Here’s just a couple of shots.

Thank you all, hope you enjoyed my little look into the toy market at Comicon. It’s a great place to go if you want to see everything under one roof. Maybe you ought to try going one of these years?
