Kill Your Kid, Send Him to Heaven!

joshua-hagermanA father in Virginia Beach, Virginia has admitted in a jailhouse interview that he murdered his 5-year old son and injured his wife in an attempt to guarantee his son’s journey to heaven.

“If I didn’t take my son’s life, he would have lost his eternal salvation,” Joseph Henry Hagerman III said in an interview with a local TV station. “I know it’s a horrible thing.  I didn’t want him to lose his salvation, I wanted him to go fast. I didn’t want him to be tortured.”

As should be obvious, this is yet another nutcase bound for the Religious Horror Show.

The following is part of an initial news report right after the gruesome scene and arrest were made.

While not much is known at this point about Hagerman, he was in the Marines from 1994-1997 and was apparently discharged honorably after his contract ran out and was working as a night security guard for the Virginia Beach Public Schools.  His MySpace page is private but does disclose a single disturbing clue, his “status” is set as “Jesus Freak in the mood for ice cream” – and a quote: “Schizophrenia can’t hold me down, Thank God for Jesus!”  The wife also had a MySpace page which said: “God’s love never changes…..His love never fails”  Both pages have now been deleted.

Later, an interview with Hagerman was done, portions of which were aired by the local news WVEC-TV, heavily editted because, according to the anchors, some of it is just too disturbing for television.

I suppose that’s the unfortunate consequence of our media outlets being funded by advertisers.

I’m sure they don’t want to get complaints for suggesting religion isn’t a wonderful thing. We also don’t know what kind of footage they might have had, for all we know, the guy might have been running around carrying his kid’s head or something. The media are wimps anyhow, we all know that.

“Too disturbing for television.” What a load of bollocks; what a poor excuse for censorship. I can guarantee I’ve seen worse in crime dramas and prison documentaries. They should be doing their journalistic duty by informing the public of the very real consequences of becoming obsessed with religion, not pussyfooting around the subject.
