A Russian doomsday cult, currently hiding out in a hillside bunker in Nikolskoe, Russia have declared that credit cards and all foods with barcodes are the work of Satan. Around 30 followers, including four children, have gathered together from across Russia and have been barricaded inside the bunker since last October, awaiting the end of the world that their pastor claims will happen in either April or May. Authorities are negotiating the release of the children, fearing the adults will off themselves in their religious fervor.
“They have burned their passports and say that all plastic (credit) cards and strip codes on food packaging are the work of Satan”, says Alexander Yelatontsev, an official from Russia’s Penza Oblast region. “Right now they are asking for a cow so they can have fresh, boiled milk that is not processed.”
Russian authorities said that the sect is a splinter group of the Russian Orthodox Church, led by Pyotr Kuznetsov. Kuznetsov, who did not accompany his followers into the underground bunker, was arrested by the authorities, but psychiatrists determined he was not competent to stand trial.
Yeah, like we’re surprised by that…
